2013-14 MA Winter Disco - 'cause it's never too early.

It's serious because most of us love it so much.

The getting down because of what might be probable baffles me. What makes this time of year exciting, IMO, is what's possible, not what's probable. I'd actually feel worse if a buch of people were predicting an awesome winter. Makes for disappointment.

That's a really good way of putting it.

Of course, there are probably people out there who are more than happy to pizz in your Corn Flakes and say that a simply above normal winter isn't even possible.

Lol what's a good winter...10"+?

Speak for yourself.  Some of us just like to have fun with the whole thing.

It's not like winter around here is something to be feared, so we really don't have to take it too seriously.

there were a few decent winters in there that were not NINOs where we got to normal and occasionally a bit above, so all is not lost; not that every NINO has been good to us for that matter

plus, chaos and our understanding of it is far from perfect to rule out in mid-October any winter being decent

p.s. and just maybe this will mean something

Which is why I said qualitative is the way to go this winter as it is in most winters...whipping a ruler out will usually only disappoint us....I think we can have a good winter, as long as the metric isn't limited to quantity..

I've always said that I enjoy snow no matter what...I love to watch it fall. Certainly I love a big dump but nickles and dimes work for me too. I think the one thing that frustrates me though and really stinks is when it just doesn't stick to the concrete or melts immediately. 19" last year and not much of it hung around for more than a day or two. I like having snow on the ground so that would be my wish for this year...an extended period with snowcover

Are you talking about snow, I am confused. Don't forget quality over quantity any day.

Keep in mind that Isohume has gunned for me before..we have a history....He makes some really good weather posts, but personally I'd rather he not show his face in this forum at all....He is not part of this forum...I don't care who he forecasts for....especially if it is in Hampton Roads...

I'll play the unscientific card. I just moved to York, PA from Southern MD/NOVA. When I arrived there was a snowblower already in the garage, brand new and ready for use.

I immediately sold it out of superstition. We should get at least one good one due to my lack of a snowblower and stupidly long driveway.

I don't live by petty little rules. Besides, I'm a forecaster at Langley AFB, which makes me an official MA dude.

Been there plenty. Coolest experience was when an F-22 took off directly over my head as I was driving along the perimeter road from one side of base to the other. Even though the signs tell you not to stop, I couldn't help but slow down.

I think we are due to get a HECS. 20+ inches at all the airports. Ji's house bullseye 30+.

EDIT: Remember we are in a feast or famine regime. We simply do not do the 6'' storm around here anymore.

EDIT2: Measurement issues at DCA lead it to get ~10 inches less than other airports. DCA comes in around a foot, where ZWYTS is closing in on 18 inches a couple miles away.

It's going to snow 100" this year and you will be regretting selling it when you break your back. lol

State college with the first flake talk of the season:

ON THE HEELS OF THE COLD FRONT TUESDAY WILL BE A NEW FAIRLY POTENT
SHORTWAVE THAT THE GFS/ECMWF ARE NOW IN PRETTY DECENT AGREEMENT ON
FOR WEDNESDAY. WIDESPREAD CLOUDINESS AND SOME LIGHT RAIN/SCATTERED
SHOWERS LOOK LIKE A GOOD BET FOR MUCH OF THE REGION...WITH SNOW
EVEN BECOMING A POSSIBILITY DURING THE COLDER PARTS OF THE
DAY...ESPECIALLY OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN OF THE WEST AND NORTHWEST

Strikes me that they only really brought up this system of little note so they could mention snow. Perhaps CTP may be a little less stingy this year in handing out the pink.

Yeah the 22 is a serious bird. Ever seen the NORAD 16s take off out of there? Full armament and ready for anything when they take off. No training mission.
