free_man
Wow, what a disaster coming for the holiday weekend. Combined with no severe for at least the next month, these threads convos could get a bit snippy.
powderfreak
Meatheads typically don't know too much about other sports . All they care about is how much they squatted last week LOL what? Is that directed at me?

CoastalWx
No I really don't. I live here so to me it's just part of the microclimate. A microclimate still obeys the laws of physics.
powderfreak
Which further proves my point. A farther south version. Both hilltops frost free Your pics look like you live in a decently forested area...That could hinder your overnight lows and keep them up vs a more wide-open field type property. But likewise you would it would lead to cooler during the day...forests will have a lower diurnal range. I don't know...the warm mins make sense to me. ORH_wxman
I'll remember that in the winter when you are supposed to be 6F warmer. We have like 5 or 6 wunderground home stations from Tolland to look at. I usually just look at those if I'm curious.
powderfreak
Yeah that all jives. Thanks You may have some persistent light flow on the upper mid-slope as the air drains downhill...I don't know but the really warm mins aren't surprising. Often I find the base of the ski area as much as 20F warmer than my house at 6am because its mid-slope. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt even though we give each other crap. The warmer daytime temps are interesting but who knows.

What were the other Tolland low temps last night over 800 feet?

CoastalWx
There ya go. Case closed No idea if it's on a hill top or valley or how the station is sited. That's still 4F colder than you, but whatever. It's not that easy. Like Will said, I guess I'll just look at the other stations.

Typhoon Tip
We don't toss @RyanBretonWX: A big-time warm-up is on the map though - 80s are possible during the middle part of next week. Keeping an eye on it! http://t.co/aYDQutNSVF Meh ... I concur with Cisco down at NCEP, who picked up on the theme I left in the forum, yesterday, rather nicely... "USED THE 12Z/14 ECENS MEAN AS A SYNOPTIC GUIDE FOR THE WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER MEDIUM-RANGE FORECAST. THE ENSEMBLE MEANS--PARTICULARLY THE EUROPEAN CENTRE SUITE--HAVE BEEN DOING THEIR USUAL JOB OF SIDESTEPPING SOME OF THE DIVERGENT EXTREMES OF THE DETERMINISTIC MODELS AS THE FLOW OVER NORTH AMERICA SWIRLS INTO A BLOCKING MODE ONCE AGAIN. HEIGHTS ARE EXPECTED TO RISE OVER NORTHERN CANADA, DIVERTING ROUGHLY HALF OF THE WESTERLIES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. THE DYNAMICS ATTENDANT TO THE SUPPRESSED POLAR JET WILL HENCE AFFORD THE INCREASINGLY RARE SPARK--WITH SUMMER CLOSE AT HAND--TO TAP THE SEASONAL SUBTROPICAL AIR ACROSS THE SOUTH AND PRODUCE HIGH IMPACT CONVECTION AND HEAVY RAINFALL. EVEN THE SOUTHWEST--WHICH SHOULD BE MOSTLY DRY DURING THIS ACTIVE PERIOD--WILL SEE ANOMALOUS THERMAL GRADIENTS AS THE POLAR FRONT EVENTUALLY BOTTOMS OUT SOUTH OF THE FOUR CORNERS." Until the blocking plague ceases ... this could be the year of perpetual spring and no summer. Not sure what it is about the overall circulation system that is causing this but its persistence is striking. We have had other years of AOs similar to this one, yet this year it is punishing the middle latitudes as unrelenting as an SS guard with a compulsion. powderfreak
Overnight lows on clear nights are definitely one of the most variable aspects of weather...its so locally dependent on terrain and environment.

Baroclinic Zone
Sad times, lots of those kids could be playing baseball. Unfortunately in Taunton the majority play softball/baseball in the Spring. Soccer is relegated to the minority. Lacrosse is now huge as well.

Ginx snewx
Ran across this site with stations that measure soil moisture and temp as well as air temp. soil temps around 54 now http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/crn/observations.htm

We've all questioned his obs before. One night Ekster and I got on him for being like 2F colder than the 3 Norfolk, CT sites at 1400 feet and like 4-5F colder than ORH on a stiff NW wind CAA event in winter. I have generally stopped doing it though. I'll just look at the other mesonet sites if I want to get an idea. The PD family map is all you really need.
