Collinsville
I can't believe I've gone 9 days without measurable. What's the record at Bradley? Since May 2000 I've gone 17 days twice with no measurable and 14 days once with nothing at all. Today is as you say only day 9 currently
Ginx snewx
oh btw I put some pictures on my blog from the Andrea from after Carol and after Sandy. You may be interested in it. I saw those cars many times over the years. Yea I agree about Carol too, after seeing Misquamy for the first time after Sandy I dug up a bunch of aerials from Carol. The tide marks up to first street and Rt 1A were nearly Identical. The damage to western Misquamicut between Paddys and East Beach in Watch Hill were strikingly similar too. Looking good down there but its not the same. I wonder what is exposed under the water where people swim or what was dragged out there and exposed. I know after the perfect storm there was a set of rocks about 100 yards off of the Dunes beach in Weekapaug we discovered which led to some great secret fishing but also made for a great offshore break for long surf rides. I'm most worried about the dunes. The dunes are totally not ready for a hurricane in the next year or two. It's amazing how much better the homeowners farther east on Atlantic Ave fared than the commercial areas where the dunes are trampled day after day. It's pretty remarkable that Sandy's surge, which was half of Carol's, was able to cause similar destruction mainly due to wave action (as I know you've mentioned). Well to be fair, the non trampled dunes past the west end by the golf course were destroyed too as well as the State Beaches grass dunes. Yea hopefully its another 50 years before a Carol returns. They had been so lucky so many times, Bob skirted East after hitting BI so they were on the west side barely. In my life the misses saved them over and over.Winter storms soueasters did more damage than summer ones. Honestly I have held the belief since I can remember that no one should be allowed to build on barrier beaches, mother nature is a b**ch.

They're "overdue" for a more significant hurricane strike.... I'm pretty sure it will be much sooner than 50 years from now.
snowman21
What's the record at Bradley? Since May 2000 I've gone 17 days twice with no measurable and 14 days once with nothing at all. Today is as you say only day 9 currently Top ten longest dry streaks (consecutive days with zero or trace precipitation): #1. 33 days (10/9-11/10/1924) #2. 27 days (8/14-9/9/1948) #3. 25 days (11/6-11/30/1939) #4. 24 days (10/4-10/27/1963) #4. 24 days (2/26-3/21/1915) #4. 24 days (10/4-10/27/1952) #4. 24 days (8/7-8/30/1995) #4. 24 days (9/13-10/6/1922) #4. 24 days (1/23-2/15/1980) #10. 22 days (10/19-11/9/2000) A 17 day streak would be ranked 27th. Also what jumps out here is how September/October can really be feast or famine with rain. There are some exceptionally wet September/Octobers and some exceptionally dry ones too. I imagine the standard deviation of monthly precip is highest in September/October?

While it does appear this streak will end sometime next week or next weekend but if the change allowing the trough/front to slide east gets delayed even further it would be interesting to see exactly how many days we could go w/o measurable. Having that list expanded to like top 20 or even top 25/30 would be interesting to see what some of the longest periods are in the April/May timeframe. In the current normals period, October and September are first and second in monthly precipitation standard deviation at 3.10 and 2.95 inches respectively. Longest streak starting in April was 18 days from 4/25-5/12/1964 which is ranked tied for 22nd all-time. May's longest period was also 18 days from 5/14-5/31/1914. Looking at all streaks of 14+ days, of which there have been 85, 17 have started in October, 11 in September, 9 in August, and 8 in May and June. February, March, and December had the least with 3 streaks starting in those months.

eekuasepinniW
Yikes, wind direction? From the east, but it looks like they finally got it out because I'm not seeing any smoke now. Our guests are telling us the road was closed, which I don't get because the traffic volume hasn't changed all afternoon.

Collinsville
Many of those stretches are pre-BDL too. I wonder how many long dry streaks where ruined by some piddly measurable event in the middle. For example I noticed that February 8 through March 1, 2004 was totally dry for me except for a useless 0.03" that fell on Feb 21 to ruin it. Would have been a 23 day streak. OceanStWx
Very high from the local Smokey here too for the past few days. There's probably a good chance they upgrade it to extreme early next week. Really solely being driven by fuels too. The meteorological conditions for red flags are just barely being met, if at all. Our RHs haven't' been getting much lower than 30%, and winds haven't been strong enough (outside of the sea breeze which actually helps to raise the RH values). So fire danger is elevated, but fire behavior is not.
