likely a big piece of ledge-it's all over the neighborhood above and below grade...I'm going to hand water it tonight since there's no rain in the cast for the next week

Lots of ledge here at the Pit.  Some areas have deeper soil as evidenced by the mutlitude of trees, but in other areas the ledge is exposed--i.e., there be rocks in the lawn.

Nice.  Just the thought makes me want to get my shawl.   Actually, the clouds and breeze are making it feel much cooler than it is.

It's a quick dose of reality. From 80F at 145pm to the current 56F.

It was up near 80 or 80 here in Ayer between 2 and 3pm, and now it's just slipped under 60 here in Ayer.

This BD is correcting the temps back to the overnight lows -- interestingly.

Very impressive back door CF event for eastern New England today -- perhaps the best we have seen in years.   Many locales registered 20 to nearly 30F jolt downward corrections in temperature in a matter of 2 hours.    I lost 10F here in Ayer in the first few minutes.  It is 49F after a high 78F = 29F correction.    I am curious where this may rank -- or if there is a ranking for BD's.   I know of a 4 events of lore right off the top of my head that surpassed this, but, this is impressive nonetheless!

I used to despise these things, but now I find it fascinating to watch them transpire.

Not sure of the dates, but March 31, 1998 was the king.  90F at UML's Weather Lab station corrected to 48F by middle evening, with 35KT NE gusts.   I remember one in 2001, where it was 93F along Comm. Ave.  I was working the 900 block down there by that CVS and the BU gals were waiting scantily clad in their college-aged flirt, when all at once it was 60F with dust in the air.     ...Just to name a couple...  I actually recall and amazing one in August of 1988.

This does appear short lived.  Tomorrow between 18z and 00z tomorrow evening, the majority of guidance suggest that the subtle +PP NW of the CP;  that should turn the wind variable to light NW in the interior, where it is +3 to +5 at 850mb.  Granted the BL won't get that tall tomorrow, but as a rule of thumb with full sun in May ... heh, I bet places like FIT down to Worcester city (not the AP), will soar to the upper 60 under hot sun.    CP may stay locked in a marine component all day because the foresaid +PP is not strong enough to compensate for the local circulation along the land/sea interface, given to interior heating.

Late March 1998 had a string of days with 80's to near 90. For it to end as drastically as that by a strong backdoor is pretty neat.

Highest temps on record here for the month...I remember one of those BD days. I think it might have been the 31st. I'd have to double check.

This current BD front is fairly impressive.

3/31 was the ~90F day and we got knocked right back into the 40s pretty quickly that night.

edit...just looked at some METARs. MHT went from 89F to 39F in 24hrs.
