Never going to happen but the clown maps are getting more and more impressive the closer we get to the event.

Maybe not but wouldn't be surprised to see more surprises/forecast busts than usual. Not exactly a lot of applicable cases for reference.

agreed. may snow storms just don't happen often, they're even usually done in northern Ontario and the northern Prairies at this time (north of the TCH's), much less into IA and WI. I'm personally thinking here like 3-5" if you measure hourly tonight. but if you're not actively measuring it, we'll be lucky to have 2-3" SOG in the morning. And I am assuming 6-1 for this storm. NWS-MPX in their discussion was saying as wet as 4-1 (I didn't know you could really go more than 5-1 theoretically, but who knows). But they were also saying the NAM was coming up with a 12-1 to 14-1 in the heavy burst that's supposed to happen. just screwy to say the least.

NAM forecasts 16" for Des Moines and almost 2 feet for southern Minnesota.

The clown maps for various models are showing one of the sharpest cutoffs I can remember. Even halving the extreme NAM amounts would blow the doors off of previous May snow records.

Amazing.

An historic snow storm will continue to affect portions of the Northland today. Snow will continue to come down hard at times with 12 to 18 inches of total snow accumulation expected in portions of northwestern Wisconsin. The snow will diminish tonight, but continue to affect the region. Across western portions of the Northland, some sunshine and warmer temperatures are expected.
