cyclone77
Looks like a long duration cold rain event here. Blah. If it's gonna be THAT cold might as well give me the snow despite it being May. Screw this 40s and rain ****.

BowMeHunter
That's one sick gradient in SE MN. NAMmaysnow.png wow.. good thing leaf out isn't too far a long farther north. I'll be happy once snow tracking season closes in a few weeks and the 5 month break that comes with it. We need to get DaddyLongLegs in to the brunt of that natures free fertilizer snow band.. His luck was good in April missing the the snow but, maybe not this May

Geos
Soil temp is up enough that i dont have to worry about snow mold at golf course. might as well snow It would be epic if only 6-10" fell. I never have heard that snow contains nutrients though.
gosaints
It would be epic if only 6-10" fell. I never have heard that snow contains nutrients though. Snow abosolutely contains nitrogen just like rain does. Snow gets its reputation as a fertilizer because it generally infitrates the soil slower giving the chance for the nitrogen to be converted to forms plants can use. michsnowfreak
No idea where in the midwest/plains the storm will hit, but ill say this much. A rare may snow looks to hit, but regardless of the setup, the model snow maps will be kinda useless because of the time of year. If you think no one is getting measurable snow from this storm, you will be disappointwd. Also, if you think that areas that will get snow will get as much as the clown maps print out, you too will be dissapointed.
frostfern
I think it will definitely accumulate somewhere. Probably further west (towards the plains) has the best chance of high totals verifying because of the higher elevation. The Texas panhandle could get dumped on. hawkeye_wx
The previous Euro run had 30s for highs here Thursday and Friday, but the new one has 60 both days simply because it has the storm cutting off a bit farther west.
Geos
The further it cuts west the longer it will be mild here and hopefully the moisture will be further west as well.
Ottawa Blizzard
22.4" on May 9-10, 1990 at Marquette...on 2.89" liquid. 10.0" on May 3, 1929 at South Bend. That's all I got, for the Midwest. I'm sure there are some non-first order sites that have done it though. Maybe. Wouldn't be surprised if 1816 saw snow in May as well.

Hoosier
Something that I noticed is how the models are suggesting snow in areas with 850 mb temps of like -1 or -2C. Normally that would be really hard to do at this time of year, but checking some forecast soundings reveals that there is some slightly colder air below this (say 950-900 mb). MN/WI/IA etc are good places to be in the next few days if you like a forecasting challenge.

Chicago WX
NAM has snow here Friday morning via fcst soundings. Rather remarkable. Probably would have a chance here past 84 hours... ...alas, it's the NAM at 84 hours.

Chicago WX
NAM and GFS are worlds apart at 84 hours. Hasn't every model been at odds with each other? Granted I haven't been paying close attention. Such an anomalous system...
Chicago WX
But yeah. 0z NAM is 30's and rain here Friday morning..while the 0z GFS is torching through Saturday. Good stuff.
Thundersnow12
Models can be bad yes, but man they are absolutely horrible when handling these slow meandering cut off lows. If you want snow I think the "safe zone" is northeast IA up into MN. I just want snow to say we had it after hitting 85 degrees. How cool is that? Chicago WX
Snow in May is definitely cool. Such a rarity. I'm rooting for it, even if chances are extremely slim to none for here.
