I hear you.  I have 30 crowns.  My mouth is worth more than my car.

Lol, holy sheet! Did you actually lose any permanent teeth? If so, did you have any implants? If so, have they worked out well?

No implants.  Since humans have 32 teeth, doing the math tells me I lost 2.  :)  Both were wisdom teeth, which may explain some other things.  Crowns have been great.  Ceramic in the front for my dazzling smile, porcelain over steel for mid molars and gold at the very back as a hedge against inflation. As ear of corn doesn't have a chance.

Larry, chewing ice is what got me to my snaggle tooth modern self.  I loved to chew on ice cubes as a remedy to the excessive heat in the south, but now that I'm reaching Burns age, my teeth started breaking off.  Snapping off midway, like trees in a tornado.  So, yeah, stay away from the ice chewing.  It gets expensive in your old age.   T

Did you ever completely lose a nonwisdom permanent tooth? If so, did you ever get an implant and how did it work out for you?

Chewing ice is not a weakness for me. However, I am somewhat addicted to having croutons in my salads. They aren't as hard as ice, but I do now wonder if they can be hard enough to cause teeth to crack. Maybe I should nix the croutons from now on?

I also have one gold crown in back and it has worked out very well.

Just to let everyone know, I've been dealing with a lot of bad health issues since december...thus the lack of posting. I've always had headaches but back in december I really screwed up my neck and back...which resulted in very bad pain. Nothing seems to help and I'm going to have to go a specialist or hospital. I've seen my regular doctor countless times this year and was hoping she  could tell me wtf is going on and at least give me stronger meds  to help. Other than saying I have 4 pinched nerves in my neck, along with some bone spurs, she cant explain my back pain.

On top of that, I fell about 2 weeks ago and hit my rips on a sharp object, broke a few of them on my left side, and the pain really got bad after I got sick a few days later (all night and in the morning). Ever since then, I also have pain even effecting my right side...why...I have idea.

And lastly after I feel, I have either had some sort pain pain in my left and right in both sides of my abdomen area. It's been a bit better the last couple of days, finally, but every time I try to do anything, even light stuff, it causes my back, neck, and abdomen to hurt.  And just sitting in chairs, recliners, beds, couches, etc really hurts my back and  neck to hurt...thus the reason I have not posted much.

My doctor did give me strong pain pills (percocet 10s 3x's a day and even that has not helped much..and this is on top of 2 other pain meds :axe:)  I'm on so many meds right now, on top of the pain meds, it's absurd and unless I take a lot, which I hate to do, it won't have much effect.

So I'm only posting this morning because of taking enough to allow me to post.

Just figured I'd give an update for anyone wondering why I don't post much anymore (if anyone has even noticed or cares that is :arrowhead::axe:)

Hang in there. That stinks. Will pray for some relief.

Yeah, I had a couple of  them break off down to the gum.   They never hurt, but I had them out eventually.  You get used to it.  Never had an implant. .I've had some sculpted out of amalgam, when there was enough tooth left,  and they work great.

I asked about the implants the other day, saying I would be afraid of infection, complications, but the doc said there was very little of that with implants.  They cost a pretty penny, but I might go that route when my ship comes in...right now the Gabby Hayes look isn't working as well as Burn's elbow trick...at least if you believe Burns... which may fit in the don't take candy from strangers category, lol.  I admit I don't have a hat with the brim up in front, so the "look" might not be complete enough yet :)

Let me know how the implants work.  I'm curious about how folks do with it.  T

Cool weather is fine except when you are heading to Hilton Head for your "summer" vacation in 10 days. We always go the week before Memorial Day and always have summer weather. Getting nervous now.

We gotta figure out a way to hit the premier.

Nice find, Bevo!!  It looks great on tape.  A lot better than it sounded when they were just describing the idea.

What's with Pegg.  He looks anorexic.  I hope that running movie didn't do him in, lol.

It's cool that it has at least two of the dwarfs from Snow White in it.   T

The beach is great with a 25 mile an hour sea breeze, and temps in the 40's!  Bracing :)  T

Hey Tony

I had total dental reconstruction surgery few years ago and now have implants and it is awesome. Never will have a cavity, root canal, tooth ache again. It is costly especially up here in DC but it was so worth it as my original teeth were very soft and would crack easily. I had no other option but to go this route. Now i can eat anything I want and not have to worry about chipping or breaking teeth. :)

Wow, Dave!  Thanks!!  So no worries with them drilling into the bone?  It's getting my head around that that is slowing me down :)  But then I've never had a broken bone. YOu make it sound like the thing to do, and if you had 'em all done without incident, that says a lot!  This will help Larry too, as he is closer to it than I am, but I'd love to get rid of this retainer, lol.  Thanks again.  Tony

CMan....I believe it is at least possible that your finally getting to see hail, has allowed the ethers to reach a needed equilibrium, thus bringing about a return to the springs I enjoyed as a youth, when cold was colder, rain was rainier, and summers were not always a trip through Dante's Inferno :)  Let us hope it presages a return to the daily afternoon thunderstorm...which have apparently become extinct, but  may be planning a surprise return......... if we believe ......

And let me congratulate you and the Metal Man on you being on top of the hurricane contest, the rules of which no one can decipher!

Could you please use your inestimable talents and tell us when the first hurricane will appear this year?  My prediction is June 6th, in the Bahamas.   Tony

 It probably has EVERYTHING to do with me finally seeing hail.

Thanks, but I don't know how I pulled the 2nd place finish nor how it was calculated... But I'll take it! ^_^

As for when the first hurricane will happen... Probably not until the end of June. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see a disturbance or TC spin up in the Caribbean or eastern Gulf during the last week of May. ;)

Hi Tony,

Dont worry about anything. If it is a very good dental surgeon you will see, you will be fine. I did a lot of home work and read many reviews and then the dentist I used recommended this surgeon too and it was great. It is a lengthy process though and when I hear those commercials about in one visit we can change your smile, I dont buy it. The whole process for me lasted a year.  This is what I went through and it was great

First you have a consultation with an oral surgeon. The one I went to here actually had a licensed and registered Operating Room in the office so I didnt have to go to a hospital which was more relaxing for me. They had a licensed Anthestiologist (sp) there the entire time. Got in there around 8am and then by 930 I was being hooked up and then drifted off to sleep. They extracted all my original teeth. The whole surgery took about 3 hours. Woke up and had pain meds and went home with no teeth.

Next day, went to my dentist and they had the temp ones that would be put into my mouth and let my jaw and bite adjust to the new ones. I had to have an anthesiologist (sp) there as my body rejects sedation pills to the allowed limit they can give a patient. So I had to be knocked out again and for 4 more times, they had one at my dentist office each time. they took the temp ones in and out each time and measured and adjusted to my bite so when the porcelian ones would go in, it would line up perfect. So like I said this went on for about 7 months or so. Finally about 9-10 months into it all, got knocked out again and had the real porcelian ones put in. I had a slight problem as I was grinding or using my tongue and pushing against the one eye tooth and it popped out a few times and finally they were able to use some new adhesive and the tooth is never going anywhere now.

But bascially, they used 7 implants, 4 on the bottom and 3 on top and they are such tiny screws they screw into your jawbone, but you dont feel a thing. And then basically the screws go through the fake gum they use and that the teeth are attached to and take those impant screws and screw through the gum line into the jaw bone and you are done.

You will have to get a hydro flosser, a good one, to get under the fake gum line to get any food that gets stuck under it but it is painless too. I am so happy, feel way more confident and one less thing health wise to not have to worry about like oral cancer, etc.

If I can find some of the pics I will PM them to you if you want to see what it looks like

Cheers

Dave

Many thanks, Dave!  And I had the idea each tooth got it's on tap into the bone.  I guess if you had them all out, they can set up a bridge kind of deal.  It sounds like you really wanted to see it though, to get knocked out so many times, lol.  But it sure sounds like you are happy you did it.  Sure send the pics.  It's good to have someone who has been though it all, and can dispel the myths!  Tony
