Be careful with these assumptions. Summer could well last until November. Patterns giveth and patterns taketh away.

Be interesting to see how long we can go without a 90 degree day. By this time last year mby had 12 90 degree days. Actually enjoying the cool and rainy spring we have had.

What a difference a year makes! The attached graphic (probably need to change the cylinder color... meh) is for Columbus, GA, but probably holds true for many on here. This is for the first 6 days of May only. The average high temperature last year was 88.6°, 7.5° above average. This year it is 69.5°, or 11.6° BELOW average! That's a difference of 19.1 degrees from year to year. Another number to look at is last year's average LOW temperature through the first 6 days. That number was 67.6°, or not much cooler than our average HIGHS have been this first week of May.

Seattle, WA hit 87° yesterday, breaking the old record, set in 1957, by 8 degrees! The crazy thing about this is that Columbus has YET to see 87° officially. That's right. Seattle has seen a warmer temperature this year than us in West Central Georgia, at least officially.

We have hit 85°+ 4 times this year, 3 of those were 86°, compared to 18! times by May 6th last year. The 80° mark has been topped 14 times this year. Compare that to the 36 times it was surpassed last year and it makes this year feel that much colder! We had topped the 90° mark last year 5 times by May 6th. It hasn't even been sniffed yet this "spring"!

Ya nice way of seeing a big difference from last year to this year. Ill take it though. Wish every spring was like this.

I, for one, hope you are correct in this assumption/prediction/prognostication.  Boo...summer.

+1!!! I hear ya Calculus. I have been eating htis weather up since March. Best spring we have had up here in a while. Plenty of rain and beautiful temps to boot. I would like some sun though so I coule get out and grill some. I have a nice smoker/charcoal grill.

This is the latest I can remember not hitting 90 in several years, the average first date for 90+ here is May 8th and that surprised me as we usually get one 90 degree day soetime in March or April. There is no 90 degree heat in the forecas, in fact after a run into the low 80's friday it cools back off to highs in the upper 60's to around 70 for mid May thats insane. Sadly it will make the inevitable 100 degree days that much more unbearable when the heat finally gets here.

How did I not receive a memo on this? My national nightmare is continuing on facebook though as I was seeing updates from him on the Storm Chasers page. Ughhhh.

To paraphrase John Dean, "There is a cancer on the weather world."

It must be rainbow season.  I finally got my car back today and driving home I saw two different rainbows.

Will they never learn?  Keep your eyes on the road!!  That's where the tires are.  And try to keep it under 90, except when you go through Atl. :)  T

Just to let everyone know, I've been dealing with a lot of bad health issues since december...thus the lack of posting. I've always had headaches but back in december I really screwed up my neck and back...which resulted in very bad pain. Nothing seems to help and I'm going to have to go a specialist or hospital. I've seen my regular doctor countless times this year and was hoping she  could tell me wtf is going on and at least give me stronger meds  to help. Other than saying I have 4 pinched nerves in my neck, along with some bone spurs, she cant explain my back pain.

On top of that, I fell about 2 weeks ago and hit my rips on a sharp object, broke a few of them on my left side, and the pain really got bad after I got sick a few days later (all night and in the morning). Ever since then, I also have pain even effecting my right side...why...I have idea.

And lastly after I feel, I have either had some sort pain pain in my left and right in both sides of my abdomen area. It's been a bit better the last couple of days, finally, but every time I try to do anything, even light stuff, it causes my back, neck, and abdomen to hurt.  And just sitting in chairs, recliners, beds, couches, etc really hurts my back and  neck to hurt...thus the reason I have not posted much.

My doctor did give me strong pain pills (percocet 10s 3x's a day and even that has not helped much..and this is on top of 2 other pain meds :axe:)  I'm on so many meds right now, on top of the pain meds, it's absurd and unless I take a lot, which I hate to do, it won't have much effect.

So I'm only posting this morning because of taking enough to allow me to post.

Just figured I'd give an update for anyone wondering why I don't post much anymore (if anyone has even noticed or cares that is :arrowhead::axe:)

I noticed. I hate to hear all this.  Best wishes for a recovery or at least a relief from the pain. One quick word of advice.  Get at least 2 opinions, 3 if insurance will cover it, before approving any serious procedures. Necks and backs are extremely tricky things.

Chris,

Ouch! I wish you the very best in getting these health issues resolved. Good health is taken so much for granted.

FYI, regarding your neck, I'll mention my case in case it might help. I have had bad chronic neck pain/stiffness/snapping issues in the past. They tried pain pills, muscle relaxers, physical therapy, massages, TENS unit, many epidural steroid injections, and chiropractors (although I never had actual chiro treatment...just initial consults). The stiffness kept me from being able to easily turn/move my neck in certain directions. Finally, after 15 months of pain/stiffness, the 2nd chiro that I went to for an initial consult told me during that appointment that I should try icing it. So, I bought an ice pack made specifically for the neck and started doing it for 15 minutes at a time several times a day for several weeks. At first, it seemed like still another treatment that wasn't going to work. However, about a month after starting the ice treatments, magic happened! The pain/stiffness/snapping, after over one year, finally went away and pretty suddenly!! Was this a coincidence or did the ice actually cure it? Nobody will ever know. However, I suspect the ice did the trick as I hadn't had any other treatments for many months at the time. My point is that you never know what might work. Bone spur(s) were causing my problem. This was causing abnormal rubbing of bone to bone within the neck spine. Since ice tends to reduce swelling/inflammation, perhaps the ice shrunk things just enough to keep the bone spurs from rubbing against other bone tissue any more. The chronic problem never returned and it has been 10+ years! Why something as simple as ice wasn't suggested earlier is a mystery.

While we're talking about health and since misery loves company, I've been having bad pain for several weeks when chewing on one tooth. There had earlier also been some gum swelling but that had gone away. When the pain wouldn't go away, I decided to see my dentist. He just told me that my tooth has been vertically fractured in two very likely due to tooth grinding (bruxism) (due to my bite being off) and is infected. I'm now on an antibiotic and will have to get it pulled next week. I'll get an implant four months later and then a crown four months after that. The intervals are needed for bone healing time. So, once it is pulled, I won't have a tooth there til early 2014. The good news is that it is toward the back and can't be seen without a really big smile.

To try to prevent more problems, a night guard will be reconsidered soon. It was considered earlier, but my dentist then determined that it wouldn't work well for me.

Related to this, never chew ice as it, too, can cause tooth fractures!

I hear you.  I have 30 crowns.  My mouth is worth more than my car.

Wow, wow!  Where to begin.  Chris, I would try Larry's ice therapy first, then, if all else fails, it may be time for Tony's patented falling off the roof technique, of which I have written you, lol.  Oh, wait, you already have broken ribs...well, you are ahead of the game, but it is important that your arm be bent underneath you when you hit, to provide the proper jolt to the spine :)

Larry, chewing ice is what got me to my snaggle tooth modern self.  I loved to chew on ice cubes as a remedy to the excessive heat in the south, but now that I'm reaching Burns age, my teeth started breaking off.  Snapping off midway, like trees in a tornado.  So, yeah, stay away from the ice chewing.  It gets expensive in your old age.   T
