Spring in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut Banter Thread

It's been more or less a typical spring so far. A mix of warmer and cooler days, days like today and tomorrow showing that contrast perfectly.

The amount of rain we've had is somewhat low but nothing alarming yet.

But what we've previously experienced in March and April has really created a warped sense of reality. People expect several days in the 80s by now but climo says not yet.

Our average doesn't even hit 70 until May 10 or later depending on where you live so expecting more 70s or higher is actually pretty unrealistic.

Average first 80-degree day in Central Park is April 21st, using the 1981-2010 period.  This year's was still early.

The average first 70-degree day is March 23rd.  This year's was late.

I think we have bust potential on the warmer side tomorrow as well as through the end of the month w/ sfc high pressure overhead. Full sunshine at this time of year should help too. Generally 65-70 through next Tuesday but tomorrow should be widespread mid 70s, and maybe 70+ early next week.

Could see some upper 70s sneak up to near PHL tomorrow.

Central Park was dead normal on April temperatures coming into today. After a departure around -10 today (50/41 actuals versus 64/47 normals), they should stand around -0.4F or so. Newark and LaGuardia are running just slightly above normal, while JFK is running slightly below normal. I don't really think it's been a cold April although the last few days have been chilly.

As others have mentioned, perception is everything, and recent history tends to skew people's feelings/beliefs.  The last few Springs have been torch warm, so its probably to be expected that this spring would seem much colder than it should be, when its not.  At least not since April 1.

Yes true, April should be cool and rainy with a few nice spats in the 70's. this year were cool and dry. Feels great though. The sun is sneaky, I got a sunburn this weekend with temps in low mid 50's gotta love that.

I can't say how many chity Aprils's I've lived thru because there are to many...A few were day after day of showers or rain...this year is great so far...most of the cold came from the north west...not from the ocean...I'm expecting the first 90 before mid May...May could end up above average this year...

I miss tracking interesting weather on the models. This time of the year is quite boring.

Don't get me wrong, I love Spring but nothing gets me more excited then tracking a bit east coast snow storm. It's like a two week event and then when it shifts 100 miles SE inside of 24 hours you think about all the hours you wasted glued to the models lol. No matter how many times you get screwed over, you keep coming back again and again like a sickness.

I also find tracking tropical weather exciting as well, even if we aren't in the direct path, and of course the last two years have been quite the exception to say the least. 3 years in a row with an east coast hit incoming?

Why rush the warmth? Near average with sunny skies is amazing for late April.

We'll probably start to bake in a month to a month and a half so ill gladly enjoy the comfortable conditions.

That's not warm.  That's perfect.  60s is kinda coolish.
