Guest Patrick
It was sickening to watch an MSNBC affiliate on air yesterday telling people to "get in their cars and head south" just ten minutes before the twisters jogged south and struck the Oklahoma City burbs. He was such a disaster... With the general public now all expecting an EF5 with every severe thunderstorm, you have to wonder how many in the NYC metro area are going to get in their cars when they hear thunder tomorrow. Terrible combination of lack of personal responsibility, media hype, and sensationalistic journalists focused on getting the ratings instead of saving lives. How about highlight the tens of thousands of people that were saved because they found an underground shelter instead of the few lucky ones who managed to get out despite or before a traffic jam. sorry, banter rant over. beautiful day out there today. SnoSki14
Fairly tame hot spell, nothing crazy, a bit early. Any bigger hot spells on the horizon, I know the upcoming week will be much cooler.

Isotherm
92.0, 91.5, and 90.6 respectively for the past three days here. Nothing like the early June 2008 heat spell with mid/upper 90s. Well above normal but not record breaking. Barely heat wave criteria.

Stormlover74
I don't think 90 should qualify as a heat wave around here, maybe 95? This time of year yes because 90 degrees is still well above normal. but for July and August yes 95 should be the criteria. btw spring's over..shouldn't we have a summer banter thread? JBG
There won't be any 90's this year...well, maybe one or two at Newark Field. That didn't work out too well. Even KNYC managed 15 or 16 so far, and possibly another one or two in this month.
Guest Pamela
That didn't work out too well. Even KNYC managed 15 or 16 so far, and possibly another one or two in this month. Throw out July (of course you can't do that) and it wasn't that far off. I think I also had Long Island more in mind (where temperatures are normal) than the Texas-like climate of eastern New Jersey, though I did specifically allude to KEWR. Also, one must concede that there has been a definitive summer cooling trend with each successive year from 2010 - 2011..2012..2013 being a cooler summer than the preceding one.
