March/April 1965 had a similar look for our area...I like that year as a spring analog for this year...

We really have moved to a drier pattern here after the late summer into early fall 2011 record rains.

2011 4.93 3.47 6.19 5.35 5.11 3.25 3.03 18.95 9.39 6.09 3.05 4.00... 72.81

2012 3.23 1.37 0.96 3.56 5.38 2.97 4.21 2.91 4.39 2.92 1.81 4.80..... 38.51

2013 2.76 4.25 2.90

An insane April out there for sure! Personally I am ready for warmth... The longer its stays cool like this the longer the water takes to warm up. I have a feeling we see our first cool MDW in years on the coast.

MDW ?

Yeah and this week is looking drier and drier. We could potentially finish out the month with no measurable precipitation in places.

I think that's like 3 record lows this spring for them

The last 6 weeks have been an absolute disaster around these parts...a warm day here and there but the (vast) majority of days have had a negative departures...typical.

We were overdue for a chilly/damp spring after the last two blowtorch springs. The writing on the wall for this was back a few weeks ago or so when models kept insisting on keeping the backdoor/marine zone close by. I honestly don't mind it too much, considering how hot things were last year. When it gets above 90, Manhattan just becomes unbearable.

It was pretty remarkable to have the two warmest springs on record only two years apart.

Its also been pretty much average this April as well, though on the drier side. We've had 10 above normal days and 13 below. The next 4-6 should be near normal, a few above and a few below. But I think we're so used to 70s/80s and even 90s now in April that this seems even colder than usual...though I will say today is pretty ridiculous. We're sitting around 18 degrees below normal for today's high

Im not asking for 90...but a few 67-72 degree days with the sun shining and the wind not howling would be nice...

Yep. Days like today aren't even worth waking up for. I wish you could just push a "Next" button for these.

great job...how did you compile these stats?...most of the colder ones happened before the city was built up...this picture of Yankee Stadium in 1923 shows how open the Bronx was before it was built up in the late 20's....many of the other boroughs looked the same...The heat island is preventing any record cold now...

Going OT here...  how old were many of the neighborhoods that the Cross Bronx sliced through?  Your point about how open the outer boroughs used to be combined with a few friends comments about how horrible the CBE's construction was to Bronx neighborhoods made that thought drift into my head ;)

As far as my methods, I have a few secret tools at my disposal.
