Quite a few issues going on in Indiana this morning. Several counties have issued Travel Advisories for flooded roads and shelters are being set up in some. Looks like the town of Elwood is having some shelters being set up right now. Some schools are even closed in and around central Indiana. What a mess for county EMAs.

Huntsville, Ontario in the District Municipality of Muskoka has declared a state of emergency this morning. Officials say floods have caused over $1 million in damage so far with conditions worsening. Very little info right now.

The nearby town Bracebridge has also declared a state of emergency in the last 20 minutes.

the Kickapoo creek here flooded areas that have never been flooded...not even close...it is going down now....

just in from Caterpillar workers at East Peoria...

Work is called off Monday and Tuesday...at the large factories...they are concerned that the levee will fail along the illinois river flooding the east Peoria Lowlands...

They are moving finished  equipment out right now...(this is where they make the large bulldozers)

still on track for a record crest here old record is 28.8 set in 1943...came close in 1979 at 28.7...

crest expected at 30 feet..river level will be above 29 feet for several days

looks like a moderate rain event possible around 1 inch possible Tuesday during the crest...and more rain later in the week

Again Caterpillar is afraid the levee will not hold for the east peoria lowlands....they will be surrounded for a bowl of water and if the levee breaks 15 feet of water will fill that bowl..river curves there so it on two sides...

In addition to the CAT plants, there are also 75-100 homes in that area..CAT is moving equipment out of the plants at this time...

Here is the official statement from the paper...but again CAT has told its workers the levee will likley not hold....

PEORIA —

As a precautionary measure,Caterpillar Inc. is shutting down its East Peoria campus on Sunday.

With the Illinois River overflowing its banksand expected to crest Tuesday at 30 feet in Peoria, company officials made the decision. About 6,800 employees will be affected by the company’s move.

“Out of abundance of caution and in order to ensure employee safety and asset preservation, Caterpillar’s East Peoria campus will be shut down as of 7 a.m. Sunday,” said a statement from company spokesman Jim Dugan.

Wabash River at the Lafayette gauge at 24.97 feet at 8:30 this morning, currently the 13th highest level on record.

Flooding impacts

25 Major flooding in progress in the Lafayette area. Residents of several homes evacuated during the floods of July 2003 and January 2005. Some local roads flooded by several feet. Tapawingo Park almost commpletely flooded. Local business in the Levee Plaza area and residents of Wabash Landing should monitor river closely if river continues to rise steadily at this level. The last time the river was at a higher level was February 1959...before the upstream flood control reservoirs were built.
