Scott that looks like well under 50% to me...some species are barely budded and even the maples haven't fully leafed out yet. Their definition was at least half of the canopy was to mature leaf-out. Though I suspect it is hard to envision what 100% looks like when we've been staring at 0% for the last 6 months.

Boston Common out my window looks less impressive than your pics though...but it has def come a long way from even 5-6 days ago. It'll prob be there in another few days.

I just gave a sample, but since many trees are those horrible Norway maples and the leaves are well on it's way...close to 50 here I think....but I only speak locally. But, the point is that we are nowhere near 2012 and 2010 which was darn early. Like I said....I have a small sample size..but seems like near or just below normal leaf out. If it weren't for the sun..it would be a lot later. I also have not suffered much in the way of a seabreeze. This area benefits from the concave nature of BOS harbor.

I'm going to say 7-10 days later with leaf out here vs last year. Last years anamolous warmth in March makes it difficult to discern if this year is really that late. I will say I had flowers on my cherry trees by third week of April last year and they are just beggining to show flowers now.

70F in the front yard atm.

I live in Torchester.

Lol...you def do. That norway maple is pretty impressive. Doesn't look nearly liek that at Downtown Crossing. We're a lot closer to the Harbor though. Back home we hardly have anything. Just some shrubs and the very beginnings of a few yellow-green flowers on a few maples and some flowers on a few smaller species I don't know.

Top of it is less impressive, but that thing leafs out so early..lol. In any direction like 2 miles from here...totally different..lol. Last year when it started doing that before mid month..it was almost too freakish.

You guys are posting different species of trees too. It's important to distinguish. The real hardwood trees are bare even here.

The study that used 1984-2002 averages defined their dates at when 50% of the tree canopy was fully leafed out. So I'm sure they probably were looking at wooded areas where a good sample of species occurred or a large enough area of urban ground to get a good sample. Downtown HFD area their average was April 20th. It looked like Boston was roughly a week later.

Yeah that study was legit...but I'm just referring to those posting pics of a species of hardwood that is normally a little later. I definitely try to include and weigh the leaf out given my locale and whatever trees we have. You guys might think it's way ahead..but nothing like last year and 2010.

Dogwood festivals this weekend, and they should be right at peak as they are almost if not there right now.  Besides the ridiculous last two years, leaf out here is right on climo schedule.

Will it ever rain again?

When did you reach more than 50% canopy mature leaf-out this year?

Whose yard is that on the left in that picture? Please tell me that's not yours

LOL-check out the yard beyond that-it's a carpet.  Love the underground power lines though...it's the one thing I hate about my street...the houses were built here 73-75 so we missed underground by a couple of years...

That's my next door neighbor. He fertilizes the crap out of his lawn and cuts it about 3-4 times a week. Unfortunately my house is set back about 1 acre from the street and once my lawn burns/gets crabgrass, it's hard to manage.
