24° F for a low this morning, which is definitely delaying the annual opening of the buds on the trees. As much as I loathe them, I often use the Norway Maples as a benchmark to assess how far spring has progressed. The buds on the Norway Maples are enlarged, but they have yet to burst open and reveal their yellow-green flowers here. Much later than last year, when they were opening by the first week of April.

Those are coming out here, but at a first clip in the city, vs the burbs.

Oh it was just a little fun with Coventry, he loves the p/c.

I know.

I happen to hate it, especially in the winter. "Snow, mainly before 8 AM. Then sleet from 8 AM to 9 AM. Then rain and snow mainly before 2 PM..."

I get that we want detailed forecasts, but it's mostly false precision.

Elevated nocturnal temperatures with the urban heat island probably has a lot to do with it. It speeds up the leaf out in the spring and delays defoliation in the fall. I've seen Norway maples in urban areas retain green leaves into the first half December in urban areas, especially during a mild year.

Around here the only trees that are active are the Red Maples with their seeds, Forsythia just opened about 3-4 days ago and Daffodils and Narcissus are about 75% opened. Down by my Dad in Enfield spring is further along with most trees breaking buds already.

Yeah, those two mild days we had a few days ago really sped it along. Many of those trees have the light green tinge to them now. Leaf out for those trees will be soon.

Yeah the ZFP is a great product...which is what I tell people to look at, who aren't mets.

The red and silver maples are actively flowering here as well. Forsythia are not quite open here yet, but they're close. Daffodils are about 50% open. At this point last year, the daffodils were past peak and withering from the heat and dryness. They opened in late March.

Shorts are worn every day from here on out. With the warm sun and a long sleeved shirt its comfortable

I wore shorts once last year when we were going to a Rock Cats game for camp.  First time probably since 7th grade I wore shorts.  Well one time we were playing baseball like 3-4 years ago and I was really hot so I took off my jeans and played in my boxers at this field.

A few WTFs in this post, but how can you not wear shorts in the summer?

I'm pretty sure trees were fully leafed out by this point last year. Certainly in the valley. I remember having discussions in a thread last yr

Not quite up here, at least not fully leafed out, but certainly so around Hartford.

My Sugar Maple, Ash and Birch are all lifeless right now, last year everthing blossomed at once.
