Sudden switch from (mostly) RA to snow about 4P, light to borderline moderate, lightened the lawn color a bit. Small flakes, probably some of that low level formation. Radar suggests we're within an hour of the back edge of signif precip, which would make this a 4-hr event at best.

Yeah, A wee bit shorter duration then modeled

All in all a nice surprise. NW MA special even at low elevations. Even though it was a yard work cancel I can't help but be giddy over a near mid-April wintery appeal event.

Although I will say a sleet storm is about the most boring type of winter weather, since it is mid-April though, I'll take it.  Knowing that it may be the last chance to look outside and see a white landscape for a while, makes it a little more exciting.

Looking out the sliding glass door and seeing a white landscape this afternoon after 90% of our winter snow had melted away...

What is also impressive about this event was hold cold temperatures were across New England today...its been 32F or lower all day in most of interior CNE/NNE during a time when the sun angle is similar to late August/early September.

I remember April 6 and 7th 1982.  I lived in Boston.  Blizzard Warnings on April 6th for Boston. Snow started in late morning with a temperature of 31F.  Heavy snow and blowing snow all day with falling temperatures to 19F at Logan airport which was a record low.  On April 7th, under mostly cloudy skies with flurries and lots of blowing and drifting snow the high was 22F at Logan which was a record low high. Snow total for that storm according to my records was 14". Next day it got up to 38F.  That was a COLD April storm!!

And we accreted ZR just fine today. I thought maybe there would be enough insolation to limit glazing on lower albedo surfaces, but no dice...they iced up fine.

Yeah your photos looked like a decent ZR event... amazing for mid-April during daylight hours.

Here was a photo BTV posted to Facebook with the 2pm temps/freezing line...

Had put the table and chairs outside for the warm season and had pretty close to an inch of sleet on that. Driveway was around half inch but I didn't bother measuring with a ruler. Dont think I saw any rain at all today, was either sleet or snow or a mixture of the two. Just some flurries falling for the last hour or so.

Temp is 34.9 which is the highest I've seen all day here.

Yeah...when I left CON there was about 3/4" of sleet accum and no ice accretion. Up here there was a little more ZR and about 0.6" S/IP accum. Only 32.1F right now here.
