ChescoWx
In watching the obs from my shore house in Sea Isle City NJ have seen quite the impact from the chilly ocean. Yesterday as we were in the low 60's back here in Chester County they struggled in the upper 40's. Today has been even more dramatic as the temp in SIC rose to 65 just before 11am - at that point the sea breeze kicked in as winds swung to the ENE and temps fell 13 degrees in just 25 minutes. Right now at around 130pm local the temp at the beach is just 52.7 while just 3 miles inland at Ocean View they are at 73 degrees - a 20 degree spread over a few miles. The one positive I can see while looking at my webcam is that it is sunny down there so no fog at this point so it could be worse. Certainly think it will be a slow spring at the beaches. Rainshadow
Paul, One door closes and another one opens, if ocean/bay temps do stay "normal" or cooler than normal at least that would slow the onset of more humid days this late spring or early summer inland. Also would make any backdoors have more of an impact.
ChescoWx
Paul, Tony....that is what I am hoping it got too warm too early last year One door closes and another one opens, if ocean/bay temps do stay "normal" or cooler than normal at least that would slow the onset of more humid days this late spring or early summer inland. Also would make any backdoors have more of an impact.

BucksCO_PA
Only a 20 degree drop in 20 minutes today in Sea Isle City as the Sea Breeze kicked in at 410pm Good stuff Paul, very impressive westerly flow in early APR to get temps into the 80's on the immediate coast, I think JFK blew away their record high for the day by 10 degrees Edit - both JFK & Islip broke their record highs for day before 11:00am
ChescoWx
Looks like the sea breeze front just swung through in Sea Isle City (Ocean Temp still in mid 40's colder than normal) 18 degree drop there in just 15 minutes - 84.8 here 3:33 84.7 °F 84.0 °F 57.7°F 29.91in SE 6.0mph 17.0mph 40% 0.00in / 0.00in total CLR 13:38 84.4 °F 83.4 °F 56.0°F 29.91in East 5.0mph 19.0mph 38% 0.00in / 0.00in total CLR 13:43 75.2 °F - 53.0°F 29.91in ENE 12.0mph 19.0mph 46% 0.00in / 0.00in total CLR 13:48 67.8 °F - 53.0°F 29.91in ENE 10.0mph 19.0mph 59% 0.00in / 0.00in total CLR 13:53 66.5 °F - 53.5°F 29.91in ENE 6.0mph 19.0mph 63% 0.00in / 0.00in total CLR
AvantHiatus
Seems like typical average April weather for the coast. Water temperatures around average for this time of the year and will be above average by the end of the month if this pattern continues. 85/58 here and 72/55 in Cape May, quite the difference for only 3-4 miles. famartin
Yeah I'd totally take the 83 over the 57.
Redmorninglight
Pine barrens makes a big difference. West of Sea Isle is a larger mainland landmass than the tip of the cape where I am. That means better lifting over the pines that generates the convection cell and subsequent ESE wind. Even more pronounced up by LBI.
ChescoWx
Ray What can I say - I like it cooler - today was too warm - especially for this early in the season! Yeah I'd totally take the 83 over the 57.
