SluggerWx
So, when is the NWS going to add a TOR Warning for this storm in AL - Might as well issue for the two cells below it (and immediately west of Tuscaloosa).

andyhb
MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0445 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 0221 PM CDT THU APR 11 2013 AREAS AFFECTED...CNTRL THROUGH NRN AL INTO EXTREME SRN MIDDLE TN CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 96... VALID 111921Z - 112045Z THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 96 CONTINUES. SUMMARY...THREAT FOR TORNADOES AND DAMAGING WIND WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE AFTERNOON ACROSS REMAINING PARTS OF TORNADO WATCH 96 INCLUDING CNTRL THROUGH NRN AL AND EXTREME SRN MIDDLE TN. SOME ADDITIONAL COUNTIES ALONG THE SERN PERIPHERY OF WW 96 INCLUDING SCNTRL AND ECNTRL AL MIGHT NEED TO BE ADDED INTO CURRENT WW. DISCUSSION...EXPANSIVE SQUALL LINE FROM MIDDLE TN SWWD THROUGH NWRN AL INTO SERN MS IS MOVING EAST AT AROUND 20-25 KT. STORMS HAVE STRENGTHENED AS THEY INTERCEPT THE DESTABILIZING BOUNDARY LAYER ALONG MOIST AXIS WHERE UPPER 60S DEWPOINTS AND DIABATIC WARMING HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO MLCAPE FROM 1000-1500 J/KG. A 50 KT LLJ WILL BE MAINTAINED WITHIN ENTRANCE REGION OF UPPER JET ROTATING NEWD ALONG SERN PERIPHERY OF THE PROGRESSIVE UPPER TROUGH. CURRENT VWP DATA FROM BIRMINGHAM SHOW LARGE 0-2 KM HODOGRAPHS AND 60 KT EFFECTIVE SHEAR. THE SUPERCELL THAT HAS A HISTORY OF TORNADOES HAS BEEN ABSORBED INTO THE LINE OVER FAYETTE COUNTY IN NWRN AL. OTHER ORGANIZED STORM STRUCTURES REMAIN LIKELY AS THE LINE CONTINUES EAST. SPECIAL 18Z RAOB FROM BIRMINGHAM COMPARED TO 12Z INDICATES COOLING AND MOISTENING IN THE MID-LEVEL CAPPING LAYER AND APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ACTED UPON BY ASCENT AHEAD OF THE UPPER TROUGH. THIS SUGGESTS THE MORE DISCRETE CONVECTION DEVELOPING WITHIN THE WARM SECTOR AHEAD OF THE LINE MIGHT EVENTUALLY DEEPEN AND EVOLVE INTO SUPERCELLS...WHICH WOULD AUGMENT THE TORNADO THREAT. IF THESE STORMS BEGIN TO SHOW EVIDENCE OF DEEPENING...ADDITIONAL COUNTIES ALONG THE SERN PERIPHERY OF WW 96 MAY NEED TO BE ADDED.
jrips27
That cell NW of Montgomery needs to be watched. Spann just pointed it out as well.
Shawn
The 12z 4KM Hi-Res NAM from Weatherbell looks pretty ominous for SC more-so than GA now with developement. Not sure I believe it though. A couple hefty cells on sim going right through the Midlands well ahead of the main line.

Brick Tamland
It's gotten into the low 80s here today. I wonder if staying warmer longer before any of the storms enter NC could help create more instability.
SluggerWx
I am very confused right now - I see about 3 - 5 circulations to the W/ NW of Birmingham that are definitely sufficient enough to be warned. But we have no Tornado warnings.

SluggerWx
So, when is the NWS going to add a TOR Warning for this storm in AL - Might as well issue for the two cells below it (and immediately west of Tuscaloosa). 30 minutes later, it's finally got a SVR warning on it - but why isn't this a TOR warning? wxmeddler
30 minutes later, it's finally got a SVR warning on it - but why isn't this a TOR warning? I think that NWS Birmingham is thinking its a book end vortex mesocyclone. Which I think is the right call. There hasn't been any damage reports out of it. Edit: Personally I'm watching the pre-frontal convection coming towards Talladega. Though at the moment is looks like there's too many riders in the pack, nobody is getting out front into the clean air.
SluggerWx
Some cells popping up near Montgomery are of over 30,000 feet already and they are ahead of the line - this might be the next significant group of cells.

RCNYILWX
Decent mesos on the cells nearest Sylacauga, though as wxmeddler alluded to, they're packed in tight in that area, so not getting clean inflow.
jrips27
Those cells are pretty messy and clustered as stated previously. Will be interesting to see if anything forms in a better position. btw It's 80 here with bouts of sunshine.

audioguy3107
One storm to potentially watch is near the AL/GA border close to Interstate 20. That one does look like it has or will have the greatest potential right now. Been out of the severe weather loop on this one, just had our second baby girl on Tuesday! Anyway, hope to get back in the swing of things but no time to fire up the GR3 right now. Some other discrete cells popping over in eastern Georgia south of Augusta. Folks wrapping up the first round over there need to keep an eye to the sky.
