IrishRob17
same here. switched to Pennington northeast blend, and i get much better results with the pennington. I think the take away here for the novice is to read the little sticker on whatever seed you look at to see what you are actually getting and throwing into your lawn. Baroclinic Zone
I have become a fan of Jonathan Green's lawn products. It's a little more expensive but I have found the grass seed is high quality. They also have a great product called Pen Mulch that you can use instead of straw. It's the next best option short of hydro seeding in my opinion. Yup. Mr Torchey
Plantings are done, 31 ornamental grasses, rose of sharon.......dianthus, russian sage, lavender, tick seed, herb garden. Finally having air flow and some sun in the back yard has made a world of difference. We should have our beach oasis in full bloom come mid July, by that time the grasses will be tall and lush, the winds coming off the marsh whisping them around as I shuck oysters on the deck and throw them into the various perennial gardens, come on down Scooter! Can't wait to take a picture of the yard come this summer the difference will be unreal, Scooters lifeless hideous yard will be full of life sun and liberty!! You need some dark, black pine mulch for the beds to enhance the color and it'll look mint.

SJonesWX
Seeding a brand new lawn. I won't be there to water. How long/often should I set the timer on automatic? you prob want to water 2x per day, once in the very early AM, and once in the late afternoon (in the sunny spots). how long to water depends on what kind of sprinkler you are using, and what kind of soil. sandy soil drains fast so it dries out quickly. I would water for 30-45 mins
grinch1989
My new, post leaching field install lawn going in today. 50 pounds of lesco seed ready to roll, I should have taken a picture for Kevin. My well pump is crying at the site of this though: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=41.3104378&lon=-73.1467619&site=all&smap=1&searchresult=Shelton%2C%20CT%2006484%2C%20USA

I would water for 30-45 mins Thanks! It's a pretty loamy soil, not to sandy. I was thinking 15 mon 2x per day. I just don't have any experience with a new lawn. Looking forward to playing around with big toys this weekend. Can't believe the cabin is nearly done.

grinch1989
I just googled around myself because of my large area of new seed and found this post...makes sense. I watered last night about 30 minutes per sprinkler (I have four set up) and again this morning just enough to dampen it up again: Keep the ground moist, until the seedlings start to establish then you should be able to cut the time in half. A great watering principle once established is deep and infrequent so the roots will "dig deeper" chasing the water.Note: over watering is just as bad ad under watering, make sure the ground stays moist not saturated. Give the soil time to dry some between watering Unless you are dealing with sandy soils which drain fast.
MarkO
I'm going to run the sprinkler enough to saturate, but not enough to wash the seed away. I agree 2x daily.
Sugarloaf1989
I just started the difficult task of watering my 3/4 acre of front lawn. Ordinarily I wouldn't bother, but I put down weed and feed last week and we did not get enough rain to water it all in. It's a muted effort if we wind up in a drought as there will not be a chance to keep it alive if this summer is hot and dry.
moneypitmike
I actually did a little mowing yesterday. Only about a half acre, but that was really the only area that needed mowing. I'm reluctant to tackle the other areas as they really haven't been doing much in the growing depeartment.

MarkO
Haven't needed to mow the back yard yet. Heading up north to do my final grading this weekend. Hopefully establish a lawn over the leaching field. Went with Lesco sun/shade seed.
Sugarloaf1989
I did the first mow/edge of the year in a few select areas that are in full sun and in need of a trim. Most of the lawn is still a bit too short for a cut.

grinch1989
Once I get my new seed up when I can hit it with fert? and should I use starter fert again or the regular stuff? It has starter on it now and step two is the weed preventer about a month from now, but something tells me that's a bad idea on new grass
