Baroclinic Zone
do you get any mushrooom issues? I'm assuming since you probably recently just started it you wouldn't have any issues. Major ones, no. I'll get a few here and there but I don't mind them. They don't last long.

Baroclinic Zone
Cool, thanks if you don't want to kill off the surrounding grass, make sure it's a selective one as opposed to broad.
Baroclinic Zone
Freshly mowed. Looks like I make it thru summer with minimal browning/dormant grass. And this is my end of summer/early fall project. Already have everything except the loam/top soil/ compost. Will get that in 2-3 weeks. I've already started to kill off the weeds/top soil. Decided on Jonathan Green Black Beauty/ Ultra Black Beauty Seed. This area has been a problem for a while. Lots of sun and poor soil. I also have a few other touch up areas around the yard to seed. I've got a lot of what I don't think is crabgrass, but it is a broad-leafed grass. I'm going to do some fall overseeing as well. Like you're dad, I'll hope for the best. Freshly mowed. The area I need to repair was the one I actually did last Spring (2012) Did not work. Grubs took out most of what I did. Sucked but it is what it is. Also sucked having to wait a whole season leaving this area as it is. It's not pretty.

CapturedNature
You guys have lawns - I have green areas with grass mixed in. Then again, my "lawn" isn't contiguous with any neighbors. I grew up out in the country and my Dad always said, leave it along if it's green. I've converted some areas to meadows and I'm wondering if anyone has thought about that. It's my second year doing that and I'm amazed at how well it looks. Even in the first year I had flowers blooming and this year it looks even better. It attracts a lot of butterflies and other critters. I mow a path through it which kind of adds to the appeal. This spring I found that it helped with snow retention, always a concern to some. I don't have side neighbors here, but we abut the land of the farm across the street (they have land on both sides of the road). I try to keep a good-sized portion of our land as lawn. We have quite a bit that's wooded and and we leave about 1.5 acres that adjoins one of the farm fields to get hayed.

Allsnow
anyone know how to kill nut grass (Nutsedge)? I'm pretty sure it needs to be sprayed, it's real annoying when it gets a foot tall in two days. Chem lawn etc would come out and do it

As Bob said, broadleaf herbicide... I use confront which smokes clover, but its pretty expensive which is one of the benefits of working at a golf course. Other products you could use is speedzone http://pestandlawncontrol-com.myshopify.com/products/speedzone-herbicide?gclid=CNrdybf_1bgCFUii4AodnUYAiw Anything with dicamba in it will smoke clover pretty good. Just make sure not to spray it on a hot day or if your turf is stressed out.

tombo82685
What about crab grass? Any tips or should I just wait until the Spring? It's not worth it really right now. Chemicals are out there to rid of it but they are expensive. Plus say you were to get something to kill the crabgrass and plant grass seed. What is stopping crabgrass from coming up again ya know? so its pretty much a waste. Once into mid September crabgrass is pretty much done. Just make sure to put down dimension next year in may. Should I do the same for some ground cover that decided to take over the area next to where it grows as well? I don't know what it is, but it invaded the areas it abuts.
