1/2 mi viz...0.25" liquid last 2 hours

The NWS had my brother in the 8-11" zone as of last night.  He has 2" and the back edge is just about on him (a little south of MSP).  However, he does have thunder, so that's something.

edit - actually, the NAM might end up not as bad, it was the GFS that was spitting out well over an inch snow qpf up there

WCs currently in the -10s pushing -20 on the summits in the whites in NNE this morning. Can't imagine what it would be like living in a place that never sees a high temp above the low-mid 70s throughout the year and has maybe a 2-3 months during the year without the threat of snow.

In Alabama a lot of schools are letting out midday for a 5% tor from spc

Considering what that state has had to deal with in recent years with regards to Tornadoes, I think that call is fine. As we saw last year with the Henryville, IN tornado, a school isn't a safe place to be in a tor. Of course, a shoddy built house or mobile home isn't either, but you're at least with your family.

well i think overall AL and MS have had a number of big tornado disasters with people congregating in one location.. so they might have a unique history to a degree there.  but i dunno, the event shouldn't be that big. guess it only takes one..
