There used to be a time that i actually learn something on this forum. Now i just feel my IQ points drain away every time I read a metallicawx post.

You should start reporting that in the obs thread.  Some like this.

Anyhow rain all afternoon today and still not even .50. Good rains were in the storms to the south and west.

Based off radar, it looks like my area is the only locale that's been receiving rain this morning, and it's extremely localized. Yet, I've managed to pick up 0.30 inch of rain out of what appears to be hardly anything on radar. Surprising and welcomed.

I got .6 last night from a freak storm that only popped up pver buncombe co. It rained for a good 30 to 45 minutes though

Special Statement SPE.gif

Statement as of 2:10 PM EDT on April 30, 2013

... Funnel clouds being reported over the southern foothills of

North Carolina...

Local law enforcement in Rutherford County has reported at least

two separate reports of funnel clouds over the central part of the

County over the past hour. The funnels are forming in association

with weak rain showers. As the rain showers continue to drift

south... additional funnels are possible... especially from Forest

City to Harris in southern Rutherford County... and the Green Creek

community in southeast Polk County. This type of funnel rarely

touches down... and the chances of damage are slight.

Please pass any reports of funnel clouds to local law enforcement

and monitor your favorite media outlet for additional statement.

Nice, Wilkes!  This is what I'm talking about!  Bring me some more posts along this line.

Here's a portion of the AFD from GSP regarding this event:

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
AS OF 245 PM EDT TUESDAY...IT/S BEEN AN INTERESTING AFTERNOON AS
THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF FUNNEL CLOUDS IN RUTHERFORD
COUNTY. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME TWO FUNNELS WERE REPORTED MULTIPLE
TIMES...BUT REGARDLESS OF THAT WE PUT OUT A SPECIAL WEATHER
STATEMENT. FUNNELS DO FORM IN ASSOCIATION WITH WEAK RAIN SHOWERS.
THIS TYPICALLY OCCURS WHEN SMALL...WEAK VORTICES FORM ALONG AREAS
OF LLVL CONVERGENCE. THEY ARE THEN STRETCHED INTO THE UPDRAFT OF THE
SHOWER. THIS STRETCHING CAUSES THE VORTEX TO ROTATE FASTER...CAUSING
A FUNNEL. THEY ARE USUALLY WEAK AND OFTEN DON/T TOUCH DOWN...THOUGH
THEY CERTAINLY CAN.
