SPE.gif Special Statement SPE.gif

Statement as of 6:57 PM MDT on April 05, 2013

... Strong Spring storm may impact the region by early next week...

A Cold Spring storm currently over the Gulf of Alaska will turn

southeast and move inland through the Pacific northwest on Sunday.

This storm will intensify as it digs into the Great Basin Sunday

night and Monday... with the storm slowing as it approaches The

Four Corners region Monday afternoon.

Moist west to southwest flow will develop out ahead of this storm

... With a series of weak weather disturbances passing through this

weekend. This will bring scattered showers... along with isolated

thunderstorms... to the higher elevations of eastern Utah and

western Colorado. Accumulating snowfall will generally be above

9000 feet this weekend with only light amounts anticipated before

the stronger storm arrives on Monday.

This strong Pacific storm has the potential to bring heavy snow

to the mountains of eastern Utah and western Colorado Monday

through Tuesday along with scattered thunderstorms. In

addition... the system is expected to bring in much colder

weather... which may drop snow levels to the Lower Valley floors

by early Tuesday morning.

Due to the duration of this system and the potential for it to

slow down as it approaches The Four Corners... snowfall

accumulations may exceed a foot above 8000 feet between Monday

morning and late Tuesday afternoon.

There remains some uncertainty on the exact timing and track of

this storm... and exactly where the heaviest precipitation will

fall. Continue to monitor your favorite media outlets... the web

or NOAA Weather Radio for updates on this approaching storm

system.

You know what's good about severe wx season? No more MS Paint snowfall maps and twisterdata being used for what it's lsupposed to be used for. Can't wait!

And also people getting excited acting like they have never seen a live tornado before or a debris ball on radar.

I think some are forgetting we have snowpack in western NC.

Let's not forget this can really create a Rel. Min. for parts of western NC and surrounding areas in terms of getting real strong severe weather.

This may show it better but not picking up on the ski resorts for sure.

I think some have forgotten that daycare can improve crayola skills.

a lot more exciting than watching snowfall on radar.

Surely is but doesn't beat watching a strong tropical storm or hurricane coming ashore. 2008 was a fun season with the exception of Ike. We need more like that. 2005 was exciting but not fun because everything was destructive and stuff.

You know the seasons here only consist of almost summer, summer, and hot as he*l :P:lol:

Amen to that :)  I only had a few days that were winter like, and one of them was  in spring :)  I'm expecting a nice wet, cool spring, with cloudy days, and no 90's...I mean, it's only fair after two bad winters, lol.  Another cold shot coming for the Masters, and I wouldn't mind a lot of cads between now and  fall, when it goes to a lot of super cads, lol.  I got 1.1 for the last system.  I'd love lots more of those, and no 90's until Aug...I'm wanting some climate change I can enjoy.  A record cold summer for a change...I've seen record heat...yawn....   T
