April Banter Thread

That's just me. If no significant accumulation is expected I give it no significant attention. I am at my low temp for the day right now(37) and it's raining. I doubt I missed anything.

Wow so if it was summer and you had sleet in the forecast and it said no accumulation expected, you wouldn't get excited? lol.

Nice line of thunderstorms training S of here like always. Ugh we miss everything here.

I'd check that out just in case someone needed to be told the difference between sleet and hail.

WilkesboroDude gets an A+ for this winter weather event. Just because it is April does not mean it is 6,000ft+ only.

Van Denton got over 600 comments on his FB status...pretty widespread event of obs there!

please show us pics of any meaningful accumulation of snow in north Carolina at a low elevation. even mount Mitchell was reporting a snow/sleet mix today.

Does anyone know why the sleet was so unusually large today? It was stinging when I left class today. The windshield wipers were no match to these larger rocks. Several college students were mistaking it for hail.

It was quite similar here with some very large sleet pellets.  Perhaps there was some graupel involved?  I'm not really sure, but those pingers around 3-4 PM actually packed a bit of a sting when they hit the skin.

Anyways, I see Wytheville, VA ended up with 6"+ of snow.  At only an hour-and-a-half from here, that would have been chase-able, though I couldn't have been there until around 5 PM when it was almost over with anyways.  At least I saw a few mangled flakes and quite a bit of (non-accumulating) sleet this afternoon with temperatures in the mid- to upper-30s.  Can't really complain considering all we were supposed to get was a cold rain.

Well it was not a lot but northern foothills went to all snow after the morning sleet event. I define low elevation 1,500ft and under.

Mount Airy 1,115ft....this picture pretty much shows what happened in other parts of Wilkes/Surry/Stokes/western Yadkin.

Alleghany County, often not included in some of the sig. winter weather events that affect Ashe/Watauga, came out as a big winner with 3" inches reported so far. Much higher in elevation but still sig. for April!

I know but was any of that forecast or anything? Some saw it fall very heavy for a while.

Just because it wasn't forecast doesn't mean it was hail......... but yeah, the GFS nailed the snow falling in that area.

We saw some brief sleet here in NE GA yesterday morning. Kinda nice. Temps held around 36-38 all afternoon with a stout east wind.

Much nicer today.

It was just weird how everyone was reporting sleet this time of the year. Some places in VA saw 3+ inches of sleet. I knew it wasn't hail was kidding.

We received more rain today than the past two days and yesterday rain wasnt even in the forecast for today.

The snow/sleet in the mountains/foothills is amazing for so late in the year..especially given the circumstances. Not to mention the snow in wv/western va where up to at least a half of a foot fell.

But All I know is I'm sick of this worthless cold. Will be real happy to see the temps warm up. ffc is even forecasting highs in the near 80 or low 80s tue and Wed...wow that's going to be amazing yet probably hot.

That's a very cool, gif, Mr. Burns!  Thanks for finding and posting!

And your "under a buck" was exceedingly clever...it gets two thumps up, and a mountain oyster :)  T

Glad you liked the GIF.  "Under a buck" is a very old joke. I have no idea when I heard it for the first time.
