Congrats Northern Plains & snow storm chasers.

From ORH_wxman.

Yeah the 12z Euro has something for just about everyone. The most obscene area though by far is the plains...the northern plains are literally in deep deep winter and not just fake hyperbole either...incredible April that is in progress there. Some areas might be -15 to -20 on the month by 4/21 if the Euro is correct. A large area up there doesn't even sniff freezing the entire run out to 240 hours. Tack on a couple more blizzards to boot.

Id take that over cold rain!

Thats more pure sleet than I can ever recall seeing, and in April no less. Be interesting to see how long it takes to melt. In winter this would have made a wonderful base for snowpack....but it is now almost mid-April.

So what does that put YBY at (not sure if your sig updated)...was it 50 for you or Toronto?

Good. As Tim and Hoosier can attest to, it's not pleasant. Although, the fact that sig snow was never really a possibility eases the pain a bit.

imby is up to 45.7". Not sure what Toronto recorded. They need 1.5" to get to 50". Maybe Toronto4 can chime in and describe what transpired in his neck of the woods.

Got me to almost exactly normal snowfall on the season so it wasn't just a nuisance. Hanging out at 32 now. I'll try to pull an ice storm this evening but it'll be a close call.

Looks like you'll get your chance at frozen around D7. And you can have it.

Don't take this as me complaining, it's just being realistic, but I see it playing out very similar to this last storm.  I hope to be wrong, but I'm thinking the cold rain sector, with perhaps another warm front making it up to I80 in N Illinois.

It's the worst.

GHD will haunt me forever.

It's probably different west of the Lakes, but here, in April, I don't expect many warm fronts to make much progress to my north. SW winds with 70s/80s and TSRA the exception, ENE winds with 30s/40s and drizzle the rule.

I picked up about 2" of snow this morning. Some ice pellets mixed in early in the morning but nothing too significant. The potential ice storm is going to be a close call for us tonight. We will need the NE SFC flow to continue, especially if any latent heat release occurs from the rain.

Snapped some various pictures today.

Choppy Lake Michigan.

North shore tracks near the stateline. Note the Willow tree on the right showing signs of spring.

Swollen Fox River at New Munster, WI.

Nearly flooded house along Fox River south of WI-50.

This is a bit blurry, but this area is a marsh and has very little open water across it normally. Now it's looks more like a lake than a marsh.

Droplets sticking to my bushes in such a way it looks like they're frozen.

Fog at UGN tonight.

Just over an inch or so fell downtown. It was sleet at first, but it quickly changed to a heavy mix of snow/sleet around 10 am.

A terrible raw day here as well. Only made it to 37° in Saginaw, MI We've had 3.16" of rain so far from this system, though I would say it looks like the most is over. 8-14" of snow is predicted for the upper peninsula of Michigan. I'll be checking some of the upper Michigan webcams on my site in the morning.
