Pittsburgh/Western Pa Weather

How is the vegetation looking out there?  I miss spring in Pittsburgh.

Like what was mentioned in the CPA thread, my lawn went from brown to green from Monday-Wednesday. Plants and trees are starting to bud and I imagine after all the rain once we warm up again early next week there we be an explosion of green!

Around 6:30 or so yesterday evening I was outside racking the gravel out of the grass from shoveling the driveway and it was nearly perfectly calm. I could see some dark clouds to the NW and eventually saw some distant flashes of lightening. All of the sudden I just heard this wooosh noise and looked up and saw a bunch of debris floating in the air in the distance, about 30 seconds later the wind was howling! Pretty crazy onset. We got some good storms, and had a pretty close lightening strike around 9:30 or so that shook the house with the thunder.

I did have heavy rain, once it got here, and a pretty good lightning show.

When I saw how dark the sky was to my west, I checked the radar, and figured it wasn't going to be long before it got here, so I went out to watch. The lightning was still pretty distant, but the gust front was really obvious as it approached. Just classical looking. Too bad the light wasn't better or it would've made a good picture. Just about the time the cloud passed overhead is when the wind really picked up. Only had some smaller than pea-sized hail for the entire event though.

There could be a marginal severe weather risk on Friday, but instability is really lacking. If the area can get some more daytime heating, that would certainly help. Dew-points are progged in the upper 50's to near 60 and there's some pretty good winds aloft. Could see isolated damaging wind gusts.

85 degrees right now.

We won't see that for a while.

Getting cloudy, the scattered storms should be popping soon.

That's the good and bad of living in western PA.  Warm weather early, but your susceptible to sharp contrasts in weather.  My fiance always hated April in the Burgh because it would go cold, warm, hot, cold in a day with some rain and snow mixed in to boot.

There a long line of storms to our west in Ohio and south but they're not making much movement to the east. More northeast than east right now it seems. Maybe some more will develop with the warm air ahead of the front.

I'm visiting my parents in eastern PA (Berks County). Things look pretty active in SW PA. Hope all the activity sweeps through before my journey back tomorrow.

Nothing severe in my area.

Now it is cooler and not looking forward to the next two days of highs in the low 50's and lows in the 30's.

Yeah nothing widespread, but the WestEnd /Crafton Heights neighborhood had some tree damage, also I heard yesterday Brighton Heights got hit pretty good.

Mabey a few snowflakes in the Laurels overnight.  :snowman:

I know, I know.
