Still pretty impressive radar return heading towards SWPA, probably at least some 45-50dbz in spots. Lets hope that holds up and pounds our area.

attachicon.gifRadar.JPG

Looks like the best action is still a couple of hours a way. Best be to go to sleep now and wake up later.

This is having a tough time moving North and seems to be weakening. I think it will make it to us but the orange and reds will be gone.

just walked the dog in a rain/snow mix.  more rain than snow....

I think the rain/snow mix is because the precip is so light.

Check out the radar and look how fast the heavier returns are filling in over Washington County and South.

I am guessing that will move through here in the next several hours and that is where we will see the moderate to heavy snow that will start to accumulate.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0329

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1135 PM CDT SUN MAR 24 2013

AREAS AFFECTED...SE OHIO...NRN WV...SW PA...FAR NW VA...WRN MD PANHANDLE

CONCERNING...HEAVY SNOW

VALID 250435Z - 250930Z

SUMMARY...MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY INTO NW VA/WRN MD PANHANDLE. RATES UP TO AN INCH PER HOUR WILL BE POSSIBLE AT TIMES INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS.

DISCUSSION...A BAND OF HEAVY SNOW CURRENTLY SITUATED FROM WRN OHIO INTO PORTIONS OF NRN AND CNTRL WV WILL CONTINUE TO PIVOT E/NE OVERNIGHT AS MIDLEVEL TROUGH CONTINUES TO TRACK ACROSS THE OHIO VALLEY. DEEP LAYER ASCENT AHEAD OF THE TROUGH COINCIDING WITH FAVORABLE DEFORMATION ZONE/MODEST FRONTOGENESIS WILL HELP TO MAINTAIN MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES ACROSS PARTS OF THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY/CENTRAL APPALACHIANS/SHENANDOAH VALLEY REGION. PW VALUES HAVE DECREASED SOMEWHAT FROM EARLIER IN THE DAY TO AROUND A HALF INCH. ADDITIONALLY...LITTLE IF ANY IN THE WAY OF ELEVATED INSTABILITY EXISTS ACROSS THE REGION. THIS SHOULD THEREFORE TEMPER SNOWFALL RATES COMPARED TO THOSE SEEN FURTHER WEST EARLIER TODAY AND THIS EVENING ACROSS THE MIDWEST...BUT GIVEN THE DYNAMIC SYSTEM AND MORE THAN ADEQUATE DEEP LAYER MOISTURE THROUGH DENDRITIC GROWTH ZONE...SNOWFALL RATES APPROACHING ONE INCH PER HOUR AT TIMES SEEMS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS.

MOST TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION ARE AT OR BELOW FREEZING. HOWEVER...A FEW LOCATIONS STILL REMAIN AROUND 33-35 DEGREES. WITH THE ONSET OF PRECIPITATION...WET BULB AND EVAPORATIVE PROCESSES IN LOW LEVELS SHOULD QUICKLY CHANGE ANY RAIN OR MIXED PHASE PRECIPITATION TO ALL SNOW.

Just measured and shoveled 4 inches.

Very heavy and wet. Heavier than the 8 inches I got several weeks ago.

It just about stopped so I am sure whatever we get the rest of the day will not be too much.

And frankly, I am done shoveling. Too much work.

Time to bring on Spring weather.

BTW...I got to see it snowing heavily before I went to sleep and once waking up in the middle of the night.

Measured about 51/4 - 51/2 in a variety of areas, highest was measured on a the car tops. One thing that is different than the last storm is its not warming up as quickly, its snowing lightly now and its accumulating on the sidewalks and roads still. Looks like radar is trying to fill in from the SW again, so should continue to see some light snow for awhile.

Was out all morning and just came back and had accumulated another slushy inch on the driveway making it close to 5 total.

The snow was coming down pretty good for about an hour or two.

The snow has lightened but still steady. The snow is starting to melt off the trees a little more as my temp has climbed to 36.

Would have liked to see a 2-3"/hr burst last night, but overall for this time of year, it was a decent snowfall.

A bit suprised that some snowpack has survived here in the valley.

There's plenty of time for spring, on to the next storm!!! LOL

I think I made have had a 2" hour last night, but just missed it.

Decent event in most places. Elevation driven of course, and well forcasted. We just didn't get the prolonged heavy bands like the last storm, and thus the non-mountain totals topped out at 6" or 7"
