That's because you incite them to complain with statements like "Infuriating long range forecasts".  Stop complaining yourself.

I think it's more a reaction to the majority than us inciting. CWG is not some niche weather board that just snow weenies post at. Not sure everyone fully understands that here.

Infuriating?  Infuriating is anger control problem level.

CWG is part of a huge media organization.  Descriptive keywords matter.  I think maybe you're being too serious about it.. Jason knows what he is doing and how to have 'fun' with things.  CWG has like 20 people.. I think way more than half are really into snow and stuff. In any group that size you're going to find a few who hate winter entirely.  I like warm season better than cold but am probably among a handful of people who stayed up all night then wandered around for 6 hours after sunrise... so it's hard to make blanket judgments on a daily digit etc.

CWG is concerned about the DC white collar work force that visits it's site and not us weather enthusiasts. To an extent, they feed those that they somewhat helped create. "Oh dear Lord, take cover, it's gonna snow, 0 out of 10 on the scale".

So those that want to take cover and want to fear the snow can chime in about how much they don't like snow. Whole lot more don't like it than do and it's about the viewship. CWG does a good job for those that seek them the most. I, and perhaps we, do not seek them as really don't need them-have better resources, like here.

And again I like CWG, Jason and Mr M*TT, especially.

I dont think there is anything wrong with talking about the public appeal role they fullfill and contrasting that to discussion which occur here.

As far as lawns, mine has 5" snow on it right now and still 7" on snowboard.

CWG is what it is. A Local weather blog on a local/ national/international periodical. It's roots, however, are grounded locally in a weather first mentality. Yes, they have gravitated to the social media public due to their incorporation to the Washington Post. But they are still weather weenies who love the weather and are doing a great job, as always, of presenting the weather, Sure they have learned to deal with a larger " non-hobbyist" weather clan. But they still have some of the best weather people (forecasters, climate specialists, seasonal experts, etc.) and I know that I will always read their analysis of any weather event. I might disagree with certain aspects of their blog (daily digit, etc) but they are still a fantastic weather resource for the metro DC area. Period. Thanks Jason, Ian, Matt, Dan, Rick, Brian, Wes, etc.

What a debacle for CWG today....

Sent from my iPhone

Well, they usually do a fine job. However, this has not been their finest few days. This must be "Zombie Winter" as CWG declared winter was dead 2 days ago.

Problem was that they prematurely declared winter to be over...you can't really predict the end of seasons unless you are well into a trend (not counting specific meteorological and astronomical dates which are just formalities). If they didn't do that, it wouldn't have been a bad forecast.

I think they have a lot to be happy about. They do offer good commercial weather to the public.

2 year quiet period has passed with former telephone weather.

Here's a fact that was Always surpising to me about callers which numbered well over 500,000 in 24 hour period back in the glory days of it-Most callers, a majority usually just over 55%, who call in the morning hang up as soon as forecast for that afternoon is given and by time that overnight and into next day is given 80% are gone. General response is this is all they want to know- It's 7am in the morning, will it snow this morning and this afternoon with curtaining interest in the rest of the forecast.

3/10....it's f---cking beautiful out. Why have the daily digit?  It just reflects poorly on CWG and undercuts their credibility as a serious weather source.

It really confuses me. Perhaps it's the DC transplant issue. People come here from snowy places like Minnesota. They hate the snow/cold and embrace the warmth, where as people from warmer places embrace the cold, and the DC population itself appears to favor warmth as well (snow is too inconvenient for them and slows down their typical "achieve everything in 15 minutes" day).

It is kinda silly. It's cool/chilly but also quite nice. Invigorating after the torch. This whole cold shot was way overplayed by everyone. Spring is like this.. even if this is a bit extreme.

All sorts of social media comments going on about Maryland's weather doing the "never know what you're gonna get" and "if you don't like it, wait 5 minutes" sh-t.

The snow was anomalous, but you're absolutely right...typical spring swings....Is it really that unusual to have a -15 day in mid April?...last few Aprils we had a -13, -12, -11, -10, -8 sprinkled in there....on 4/23/12, it was 50/42.....though full sun makes it more impressive...in the last 15-20 years, we've had a few -16's in May and June....

People are turning dumber with time I think. We had 3 days 15+ departures a few days ago and today will be about -15. The other days were praised for their amazing springlike qualities yet this is like a terrible Arctic outbreak.  The need to drum up news out of not much. Granted again, this is fairly unusual for so late but it's not worth hand wringing or anything.

As Matt said, the snow was anomalous and note-worthy.  The temps...naso much.  The warm days are going to be more anomalous relative to normal than today's cold temps.

It seems we've just become accustomed to torch being a way of life. It's not surprising at all that we got another cold day this mo given the last half year or so. It's hugely different from having a cold day in Feb though. The wind is a bit much at times but it feels pretty awesome and everything is bright with the new leaves etc.
