Read through parts of last year's March thread.

Here's a few things I wrote last March that almost seem unfathomable to me.  What an amazing difference between the two years....

March 17
The record low for Monday at MLI is -10. The forecast is for a low of 61. Just yet another amazing stat to throw into the mix.

March 20
Still 68 at 11pm. Figured the lower dews this evening would lead to a quicker drop off in temps, but the increase in clouds has kept temps up.

March 22
Only 72 today here. Feels nippy after all the 80s lol.

March 25
76 with lots of sun and cottony cumulus today. Tomorrow looks horrible though, with upper 40s and overcast/drizzle. Should be back in the 70s though on Tue.

EDIT:  This really seems laughable the way this March has gone.  Upper 40s feels horrible?  That would be a monumental torch this March lolz.

March 29
Finally broke down and mowed the lawn this evening. Was getting pretty long. First time I think I ever mowed in March lol. The leaves on the trees are getting pretty big now. Looks like May out there.

Found some of my March 2012 comments too:

March 22nd:

Been above 50° for 6 consecutive day here! Amazing for Mid to late March. With the way temperatures are going tonight, probably dip below 50° by morning.

March 20th:

In response to T-snow's comment about ORD being at 74° at midnight.

Sitting at 60° with overcast skies by the looks of it. The ORD current reading is amazing for spring time! Its hard to get that kind of midnight reading in June!

Later that day:

81° here now. The warmest day I've experienced in March. +39° above normal. Based on UGN's averages.

March 19th:

Waukegan went from 54 the last time i checked around midnight to 67 now. Plz keep that south of here.

Me: I wish that it wouldn't have gotten here! Didn't sleep the best.

Been sitting in the upper 60s for awhile this morning. Completely cloudy. Rain is moving into the county from the SW. 61° dewpoint...in March...!

March 18th:

Hit 77° about half hour ago. Lake breeze decided to kick in now. Down to 73° now. Few cumulus clouds are trying to get going west of here.

...Saw a garter snake today in the yard! Never seen one before Easter!

Later that day...

Great evening in the upper 50s! Feels like a mid-May night!

March 15th:

Down to 45° with light fog. +12.9° for the first 14 days of the month.

Nice.  Definitely entertaining to read through and note the complete opposite of everything we have going on now.  Also kind of makes you look forward to that type of weather which should finally be arriving within the next 2-3 weeks.

I'm still not sure what happened with Patrick Sumner in the storm thread yesterday. Some stuff was deleted. I just saw a reply from earthlight and now he's apparently 5 posted.

Now, somehow he got access the NWSChat under "Media" and is bugging the IWX and IND mets with comments on every model on every run.

Patrick, if you're reading this, I know you are excited about the weather. That's what we are all here for, but chill dude. Quit bugging the mets and let them do their job. If they want to talk with weenies about models, they'd post on this forum. Step away from the computer and go get some sleep.

Oh, and nice language on your profile page, especially from an IWU student.

Wow if that is true, I mean I can understand wanting to know information about the weather but to go to that level of questioning is a bit much. Especially when we have shown him links to find the information himself. I mean it isn't like this stuff is hidden and only mets can see it.

As for the 2nd bold part, yikes...

Yup, end of an era. I've been keeping continuous precipitation records imby since August 1, 1999. It's going to be sad to see that end although I still have an application pending with Osgoode Hall so you never know :)

I know i don't post much around here but i have really enjoyed following your posts this winter. Always an interesting read. Enjoy your time in edmonton and check back here if you can. Looks like some LES bands may be possible tonight into tomorrow across the west end of lake ontario.

Another gray, chilly late March day here.

March has been way colder but way less snowy than December. Go figure that one. A classic example of ma Nature evening things out. The first half of winter was a disaster in much of the midwest/Lakes, but almost every snow found a way to hit SE MI. Then February was clearly a spread-the-wealth snowy month over almost the entire region, and now in march almost every snow tries to find a way to avoid SE MI. Hoping the RAP is right. Id really like to see me/DTW hit 50" this winter...I thought we had a great shot after our snowy Feb, but Mar has not produced much. Need to get 2.8" by the end of the season to hit 50".

Other March thread is locked, so...

I said this on Feb 26...

Don Sutherland just upped the ante for March.

Too early to hand out kudos, but QVectorman was hinting a cold March as well, weeks ago. And mentioned March 1960 as well.

Hoosier responded with...

11" here that March. Something tells me to take the under this time but chances are we get something with the cold air sticking around.

I followed with...

Easy under.

Tim fail.

Been an amazing month. We might be old men before we see another March that is this snowy.

Hit 35° here today with a trace of snow. If it doesn't hit 50° by Sunday, it will be the only March I can remember that failed to produce one!

Month could easily be -8° from normal with the current forecast.

Here's a crazy fact...this March has now had more snow than what November, December, January, and February had combined.

Haha, you're right. That's kinda awesome.

Also March will most likely, barring something freaky happening, be colder than December in the LAF.

Hit 33 today.  Snow fell pretty much all day long at varying intensities.  Heaviest fell in the late afternoon.

This time last year I mowed the grass 4 days later.  Tomorrow the frozen, brown grass will be covered by a few inches of snow at the start of the day.  Incredible contrast to last year.

I had to mow and there were leaves on some of the trees around this time last year.  The grass started growing in mid March, and then went dormant by the middle of June unless you watered it.  I felt like I would have started a wildfire if I mowed it last summer.

I walked through my front yard today and it was still frozen solid.  I don't know how long it takes for the frost to melt, but it seems like the growing season will be rather late this year.

I have a big brush pile out back that I haven't been able to burn due to the drought last year.  Was just way too dry to burn, so have been stuck with that eye sore for several months.

Can't wait for things to start greening up in the next few weeks.

Overcast skies tonight and 30 F with north winds. Clouds are keeping temps from falling. Looks like the lakeshore from Chicago to southern Milwaukee is all above freezing, definite marine boundary layer action.

GFS says we get another dusting in the afternoon, probably snow showers generated by steep lapse rates, especially if we can get some sun to break through the clouds.

Here's a pretty remarkable before and after shot taken March 27, 2012 and March 25, 2013. Tulips were fully bloomed and leaves out. This year no buds and tulips haven't popped out of the ground yet!
