That web cam from Twin Lakes is beautiful.  It brings tears to my eyes. :)

Places near Twin lakes have received 26" of snow over the past two days.  Check out these co-op reports for the UP, from NWS Marquette.  The last number is snow depth.  I bolded some of the most impressive reports.

I really need to find this "Hoist Basin"... Even though it has "Basin" in the title, I think its a high point and possibly in the dreaded Huron Mountains... The Huron mountains are owned by a wealthy group of naturalists and entry is OFF LIMITS.

Sitting at 24.7F (-7.1F) for the month...

Got some work to do if we want to make #1

Looks like top 10 is out of reach, those two days of +14 really sunk the top 10. Probably top 15 is possible... Pretty amazing after last Morch we were told "Its the new climo!"

Elevation is between 1450-1650 feet in the area. I "believe" this is where the Hoist Basin is located near here.

Brrr it's cold here! It was cold in SD/WY, but chillier here for the most part. Still have a decent snow cover here as well.

Low 13° this morning.

Couple of pictures crossing the MS River at La Crosse yesterday. DLL - your area looks like the frozen tundra! lol

Excuse the less than clean windows.

That river has only recently opened...  There was actually a guy yesterday out fishing by the dam (which is on the other side of the top pic)...

One time many years ago, that bridge you drove across..i WALKED across the Mississippi under it to go ice fishing in pic #2....insane.  I'd never do it again.   In pic #2 that water is open because of a large box dam (if you ran your boat across that, your motor would smash into rocks)...

Yes..its the tundra...today was horrible.

Its amazing up there right now...but dont expect 4-6 feet....probably more like 3 feet. Snow depth at SSM is 29" with 33" in Paradise.

Where I'm going is a ways north of Paradise.  In the Lake Superior Provincial Park in Ontario there is about 40" depth at lake level and I'm sure there's at least 60" on the higher hill tops inland of the lake.  There are steep bluffs that rise up to 800 feet above the lake level.  I think it's safe to say there will still be at least 4 feet some places on Saturday even if it's settling.

DLL - yeah I wouldn't be too inclined to walk across a large river that far south. Lake Onalaska sure, due to the stiller water. Nice drifting up on the bluffs in MN yesterday.

High only 21° today. Over -20° from normal.

These giant icicles were really cool along 90.

I'm thinking of driving up to Salt. St. Maria Friday evening and going snowshoeing north of there along Lake Superior. There's currently a 4-6 feet of snow in the area!

Any particular reason you choose the Soo? There's a snowshoe trail by Grand Marais... They have about 2 feet more than the Soo right now.
