What did the CFS show 2 months out into its usual default to warm mode?

It showed massive torch lol.

March 2013 at Detroit...the mean temp of 34.6F was solidly below normal (-2.6F) and 16.1F colder than last March, but nowhere near the top 20 coldest marches. Snowfall (3.1" dtw, 3.7" mby) was about half of normal but again nowhere near the top 20 snowless marches. Season snowfall at the close of march (47.6" dtw, 47.8" mby) is still over 6" above normal. The most notable aspect of the month would be that the total precip of 0.74" ties for the 5th driest March on record.

Total precip imby was 0.72", and since I have recorded liquid precip amounts beginning in Aug 2000, only 4 months have been drier. Sept 2004 (0.65"), Oct 2005 (0.54"), Nov 2009 (0.51"), Aug 2010 (0.45")

Really the only things that stand out from a weather perspective that stick out in my memory (without looking at the stats) was the rock solid hardness of the light snowpack to start the month, the 2-inch snowfall on the 16th, and the excessive gray skies.

March precip.... definitely shows the lake belt getting the love. Also backsup Sparty's comment on the dryness in S MI.

It was very dry. As said, 5th driest March on record for Detroit. Coming after a much wetter Jan/Feb and the fact that March did have a decent amount of water in the light snowpack to start the month, it really isnt of much of a concern (other than from a march-was-boring standpoint lol).

2013 still running a surplus for the first 3 months...

Jan 1-Mar 31st at DTW

Precip: 7.02" (+0.76")

Snow: 36.6" (+5.7")
