First Report of Heavy Snow in SW IL vis down to 0.50

Litchfield Municipal Airport 02:35 Heavy Snow

Not trying to nitpick, but shouldnt that be "snow"?

My rule of thumb based on DTW obs/vis is that...

0.25 mile or less: Heavy Snow (once in a while you will see "Snow" at 0.25 mile but its usually "Heavy Snow")

0.50 mile: Snow (once in a while "Light Snow")

0.75+ mile: Light Snow

Depends if the prevailing visibility is the surface or the tower visibility. It goes by the surface visibility, so lets say for example the tower vis is 1/4SM and my vis is 1/2SM the prevailing visibility is 1/4SM with my vis being in the remarks and the present weather would be SN.

You are correct however that it goes 0-1/4SM is heavy snow, 1/2SM is snow and 3/4-10SM is light snow.

Last Sunday was enjoying the mid 80s, this Sunday 30 and snow..

Your going to do pretty well also!

Yeah, we'll probably make out ok...but just south of here looks to be the sweet spot.

Spitting snow here now as we enter the lull. All eyes turn to the southwest.

What a horrible freeway, every time I have been on it there has been some sort of accident. They need to widen it to 6 lanes instead of 4, especially considering it is the main route from Chicago to Indy.

I-65 is awful. But people also need to stop driving like jackasses during inclement weather, let alone dry sunny days.

Agreed. I've seen so many crazy things, especially people tempting fate trying to outmaneuver trucks. I won't be surprised if it's close more often than open during the next 24 hours.
