Earliest cherry blossom season

I would trust a verified study that proves this is the earliest since 1953, since that's when records have been recorded. I can't find any links that support this claim. The entire month of February was below normal in Toyko and March had a one week period that was probably +10 for that week. Seems very unlikely that it is the earliest ever.

earliest since recod keeping started in 1953: http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/T130313004271.htm

tie with either 2002 or 2009 (different stories give different dates).

It must have a very small range of blooming.... The entire month of February was below normal and just 1 week of 75 degree temps and it blooms.

Probably has more to do with sunny days than temps... 3.5C can't possibly be the warmest March ever.

Why can't it?  Did you check what Japan's climatology is?

FUKUOKA (Jiji Press)--The Fukuoka District Meteorological Observatory said Wednesday that cherry blossoms in Chuo Ward in Fukuoka started to bloom that day, earlier than anywhere else in Japan this season.

The blossoming started 14 days earlier than last year and was the equal earliest in the city since observations started in 1953, along with 2009, when the cherry blossoms began to bloom March 13.

The blossoms will likely be in full bloom in seven to 10 days, the observatory said.

The average temperature in Fukuoka since the beginning of March has been about 3.5 C higher than usual, according to the observatory.

They never said it was the warmest ever, nor is it implied it has to be the warmest ever for this to happen since other factors besides even the Sun would play a decently large role.

This was posted in the climate change forum, so I dissect it from the AGW influence. If 3.5C is the warmest March period on record, that's an incredible lack of variability. Again, it was posted in the climate change forum.
