Nice to wake up to fresh snowfall. This storm actually has some decent structure and precip coverage. Trough of warm air aloft (TROWAL) associated with the low near Chicago is dumping on Madison and Milwaukee now. Another frontogenesis region associated with a low centerd in northern Minnesota is draping a band across eastern Iowa that will move in right after this. Small gap between the systems along the Mississippi river.

What is funny was watching TWC, seeing the gap in WWA, and the heaviest snow occurring right in that gap.  With the amounts not in WWA criteria, it makes sense, though some in S Wisconsin may see 3-4" of snow between these two waves.

Thinking about 2" of snow here. Seems to be model consensus that the brunt of the limited QPF will come through while the column will support all snow. If the OV sfc low is weaker than progged though and sfc winds are more southerly rather than easterly, there could be bl thermal issues for YYZ. Not expecting that, but something to keep in mind.

My call for us is 2-4", with 2-3" being more likely than 3-4".

Yeah, Madison must be in a fault line of intense weather, the squall lines tend to be at peak intensity around there, snow at peak intensity around there, it's amazing actually how the intensity of precipitation can vary between two cities 75 miles apart and with overall similar climates besides the presence of Lake Michigan.

Only the tips of the grass now showing which is usually a sign we're AOA 1" of snow. Sfc/925/850 temps are solidly below freezing and look to stay that way for the next little while. Might get to use the shovel for one last time :)

Hopefully the snow picks up in intensity before it ends. Looks like a dry slot to the west of the city, as per EC radar.

About 3cm fell with the band that passed through here earlier. Most of that fell within a relatively brief time period. Solid plastering on roads/sidewalks/trees. Walking home after my midterm tonight, it was hard to believe we're in the latter half of March... looked more like December outside. Light drizzle now.

Edit: Sounds like we might actually be getting into some freezing drizzle now. EC has Freezing Rain Warnings hoisted.
