MGorse
Well, this turned into an interesting day. By the way, we did receive some reports of thunder in southeast PA and I saw at least one cloud to ground lightning strike on the display near Philly. At one point here at the office it was pouring sleet.

Thunder Road
Warrington, PA. 32.1 degrees, winds E at 10. 50% sleet (someone tell Rob/Rib)/50% snow. 0.3" of variegated frozen material on the ground. We just arrived home from Lancaster after a terrifying trip on the Turnpike from Morgantown to Valley Forge. Cars flipped over, spun-out, a 5 car accident just east of Downingtown. What a mess! Salt trucks were just getting out. Caught everyone by surprise. EDIT... After Valley Forge, it was just wet. .At home we are 5 mi North of the PA turnpike (E/W, I-76). As we worked our way north, there was very little evidence of snow right at the turnpike. EACH MILE NORTH, there was a steady increase of frozen precip and accumulation. Interesting to watch unfold. Could have done without the white-knuckle turnpike drive though. Interesting to know that the regular Turnpike wasn't any better. I ended up putting my car in park for an hour and 45 minutes on I-80 waiting for crews to clear some sort of accident.

Your idea of pingers influencing the total upward is probably correct. Still impressive that they got so much given the EC's ~0.10" forecast. Yeah, not a big variation in actual number... just a big percentage difference Yeah, I noticed one in southern Monmouth with .40. Here, there was a mix with pingers as the heavier snow bands moved in and cooled the column. I drove down near KDIX where my mom lives and noticed a substantial increase in snow coverage around 3 pm today along 537 just east of Great Adventure. Too bad no one reported from northern Jackson area. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some 2 - 3" amounts there.
HM
I know I am late to the party but I can confirm the thunder snow pellets on Saturday PM. There was a definitely a flash of lightning with rumbling thunder during a particularly heavy bout of snow pellets. This was in the Hamilton, NJ area (I wasn't in Mount Laurel during any of the afternoon stuff). It was snow earlier in the day then went to rain/sleet/snow pellets during lighter bands. But it was all SNPL during the heavier rates in southern Mercer. Pretty cool gradient between Ray's Parent's house and Hamilton.
