Teru Teru Bozu
Oh, Jeff Piotrowski. That "rush" he gets on chase days isn't from adrenaline, I think. More like Dexatrim and quadruple espressos. This is a pretty good program, I really like seeing some of this footage again. The Pampa tornado of '95 is still one of the most impressive that I've ever seen video of. Unbelieveable rotation. And I like that they talked about some stuff that doesn't usually get covered by general interest programs like this, such as the early days of tornado research with Neil Ward and experimental Doppler, and Elias Loomis' infamous chicken cannon
andyhb
This was one of the documentaries that really got me more into severe weather, I have it on video tape.
on_wx
This was one of the documentaries that really got me more into severe weather, I have it on video tape. Once I heard the intro music it all came back. Had this on vhs too and it might still be kicking around in storage somewhere. That and those documentaries 'tornado: fury on the plains" from the mid to late 90s. Also gotta mention Twister, Tornado!, Night of the Twisters, and other ones I may have forgot. Teru Teru Bozu
My all-time favorite tornado documentaries are the Tornado Video Classics series. Early-mid '90s. All tornadoes, all science. No filler, no fluff. VHS, baby. Tornado Video Classics I had a lot of old silent films of tornadoes as well as more recent (circa 1992) video footage. It ended with this clip taken at a lake in Minnesota in the early '90s. What's funny was that they just let the clip play out (over the end credits), and you can see and hear the people watching the tornado go from gawking, hollering morons to totally confused, terrified morons in the span of just a couple of minutes (no one was hurt): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vinbr8yn3FQ (no imbedding, I know, but watch the video anyway, it's worth it) Tornado Video Classics II used part of the same clip again, during which the narrator calmly said, "getting into a basement or closet might have been the safest thing to do."
