The Interior/NW Suburbs Spring Thread

Hi neighbors,

Wikipedia says it is time for a new thread:

"Meteorologists generally define four seasons in many climatic areas: spring, summer, autumn (or fall) and winter. These are demarcated by the values of their average temperatures on a monthly basis, with each season lasting three months. The three warmest months are by definition summer, the three coldest months are winter, and the intervening gaps are spring and autumn. Spring, when defined in this manner, can start on different dates in different regions. In terms of complete months, in most North Temperate Zone locations, spring months are March, April and May..."

Since the transition months of March/April/May tend to have very different weather outcomes in the hills vs the city and immediate burbs, I thought maybe we should keep this interior thread going...let's see if we eek out another few accumulating snowfalls before our first 90* day.

I just read your signature Patrick.  I thought I had it rough at times with three boys when they get to wrestling/fighting but see you have FOUR!

My spread is a little different: 20, 16, 15.  Now when they get into a tussle they break things which luckily is on a limited basis now that they are older but it still happens.  I live in a park and there is a outside rink for hockey and years ago the then 15 and 10 year old got into a fight playing hockey.  The 10 year old came home with a blood all over his pants, they literally left blood on the ice too but they were buddies again by the time they walked home.  I can't complain too much though because my brother and I were the same way.

Steady rain falling with a solid radar to the SW heading this way, talk about mud!

mud season is in full swing...and my asphalt driveway is eroding. my brother lives over the mountain in hardwick. spent Saturday watching him make maple syrup. his four kids and our oldest were killing the mud with the quads. talk about a tide commercial.

i have already seen mosquitos the Size of my fist. going to be a fun first summer on the mountain for sure.

:poster_oops:          My twins are 14 now.  I seem to have forgotten about the raging hormonal fluctuations at that age.

Even my driveway piles are gone.  I don't think I'm going to be able to get off the back patio for days after this deluge, the muck just comes up around your shoes and tries to remove them for you.

awesome day today... not as muddy as the past two days, that's for sure.  I'm almost afraid to ask... but why the smell of septics?  If you smell it, doesn't that mean it's not working and/or the drainfield piping needs replacing?

High water table with all the snow melt and rain. Doesnt mean anything is wrong with your septic. Water this time of year perks very slow.. Happens every year. Walk around the neighborhood and sniff, you'll smell them. Once everything dries out it goes away. Now in the dry months, end of July, August, if you smell it, yea one of your neighbors septic has a problem.

So has anyone seen DT's first call map from last night ...looks interesting for up this direction ..8-12 yes please :)

This storm does seems to have the potential to produce decent snow amounts the further north you go.

I am expecting around 4-5 inches of snow to sleet/freezing rain in HL.

Mt Holly NWS discussed the possibility of the need to issue a winter storm watch in their discussion.

Cheers,

Matt

Yeah its either they are concerned about the ice potential or unsure of when the changeover from snow to ip/zr is gonna occur

Now that it's looking wetter rather than whiter for the immediate metro zone the main thread seems to have crapped out.  Lets roll up here!  I'm not done with this winter yet.  Had a great, fast, frozen mtb ride this morning and need another pow day and have Tuesday off.  Decision is between the Cats or northern Berks.  ALY map looks good for Plattekill and BOX/BTV maps look really good for northern Berks and southern Greens.  If we get lucky I'll be able to get out of here before the ice makes it too sketchy.

Yeah nws has us under a winter storm watch for 4-6 inches followed by ice down here in Orange County- would be a nice tack on. Was a winter like weekend for sure. Got about a half inch on Sat and temps were about 32 for highs yesterday and today.

I'm glad we have such a friendly bunch in here.

Looks like Darkstar and neighbors could jackpot tonight with ice accretion...I might.....*might* be saved by my slightly lower elevation.  This is going to be another one where it's raining on Rt 23 in Sussex and snowing on the hilltops in either direction off the immediate highway.  fits into the season narrative very well.

Good luck to all, hope nobody loses power.
