Dulles Historical Daily Temperature and Precipitation Record

Does anyone here have a spreadsheet of IAD daily observations that they would be willing to share? Ideally, it would go back to the airport's opening in November 1962, but if it's only for a few recent years, that would be helpful as well. I'm trying to run some historical comparisons of IAD and DCA temperatures, precipitation, and snow, some of which require the daily -- as opposed to the monthly -- record. If anyone has such a spreadsheet (or knows where to get it), you can reply here or send me a private message. Thanks.

You can get it for free from the Utah State Climate website. It's less user-friendly now, but still pretty easy to figure out:

Station ID for IAD is: USW00093738

Under step 2, you can choose what data you want. They seem to have converted over to mm instead of inches like they used to have. So, you'll have to finagle that in excel once you download it.

Rodney,

I have it on my other computer, but you can download a more updated version from the Utah St climate site: http://climate.usurf.usu.edu/mapGUI/mapGUI.php

Thanks very much, guys. You obviously think alike, right down to posting at the same exact time. :)

Would you believe I've already received and downloaded my report? And, while the default is metric, there is an option for Fahrenheit and inches, which I obviously took. I had no idea that these data were so easily available -- thanks so much! I'll try not to spam the forum with statistics that only I find meaningful. ;)

Rodney,

Here is a nice link that I use for historical data. Just type in the airport code and go. IAD data on this site goes back to the opening in 62'. In fact you can use any airport code and get all daily, weekly, and monthly data quickly w/o the need to download.

Thanks. By the way, one very minor glitch in the Utah State data that I discovered is that they were converted from English units to metric units and then back again, with temperatures shown to one decimal point and snowfall shown to two decimal points. For example, if 1.0 inch of snow were recorded, that converts to a rounded 2.5 cm. However, when 2.5 cm is converted back to English units and shown to two decimal points, it works out to 0.98 inches. Not a big deal, but I just e-mailed the Utah Climate Center to tell them that for English units they should show snowfall to only one decimal point and temperatures to whole numbers.
