I am shocked at how little snow was reported at PHL on Friday (0.2").  I had approximately 3" in Cherry Hill, which is literally 10 miles as the crow flies from National Park, NJ where the official PHL measurement is taken (at least, I think it is still taken there).  It is not an elevation thing since my house, like almost all places in South Jersey, is quite a bit less than 50' elevation.  For once, I guess I just happened to be on the lucky side of the line.

South Jersey does "seem" low lying, but its actually a bit higher than you might think.

Just browsing the mesonet listing...

You will notice that most sites in Camden County are above 50 feet.  There is one Cherry Hill site that is only 16 feet... but only because it is literally on the banks of the Cooper River.

Ray, ratios were rather high. I had .47 melted snow for 6.5". I also had .13 of rain and none accumulated snow totaling .60 on the nose. I'd say that's that's somewhere between the NAM and the EURO. As far as who won? I'll wait for you to make that call.

Yeah, for TTN only (which is where I focus for multiple reasons), there were plenty of NAM runs which were ridiculously wetter than the 0.34" measured, but of course most other guidance was 0.10-0.20" or so.

Maybe around parts of North Jersey the NAM won hands down, but I don't recall just how wet it was up there.  I only know some NAM runs had over 3/4" liquid at TTN which was WAY overdone.

I am not really shocked. If I recall correctly, the snow observer reported that after the 0.2 inches accumulated, the falling snow did not accumulate anymore as the temperature stayed 'warm' enough. The snowfall really dropped off the farther south and west one went across the area.

Yes they were quite wet as I recall. One run had the 1.25" contour over TTN. It did back way off down to .50 contour the next day. Then the EC ramped up to the same. Over all I'd say both did ok but the NAM's precip plots do need some work. I'd rather see it a bit drier, like the old MGN use to be than ridiculously wet.

Been busy all day at work, but my wife sent me an email around 1 pm, saying we had 2.5" of new snow since 7 am (I cleared off our deck table for her), which, combined with the 5.0" I measured at 7 am, leads to 7.5" overall.  Snow still fell after that, but didn't add appreciable accumulation as snowfall rate didn't really exceed the melting rate in the afernoon.  I think that's a fair total, as it's 6 hours after my initial measurement.  Sure, total depth was about 6.5-7.0", due to compaction, but I think 7.5" is kosher.  I do, however, think the NWS/NOAA should try to come up with one single way to measure snow, so we don't get into these arguments, although that's a hard thing to do and enforce.  Regardless, what an awesome "make-up" storm after the debacle on Wednesday.  Reports from Middlesex County need to be updated, as they were all from this morning and more fell in most spots (3-5" on the NWS page).

Brings the season total to 32.0".  Not a bad winter, after all!

What do you mean?  There is one way.

ok, let me rephrase - would be nice if we all measured consistently.  I measured at 7 am and we had 5.0" of new snow on the ground.  I then cleared the "board" (was using my deck table, which is unobstructed) and had my wife measure the new depth 6 hours later at 1 pm, and she measured 2.5" of new snow, for a total of 7.5".  As far as I know that's kosher and Allsnow and somebody else reported around 7" in the Edison area.  But the NWS doesn't list any Middlesex County accumulations as being more than 5" and I assume that's because all of the reports were from the morning (4-5") and that they also subsequently got at least 1-2" more - are the reports simply incomplete or will those 4-5" amounts be the only ones captured, even though they're very likely inaccurate?

Did you report your total to Mt. Holly?
