Suprised it's not sticking to pavement yet, it's snowing at a good rate, probably an inch an hour or so if it all were to accumulate. I think it's because we had alot of non accumulating stuff earlier, and that's going to mean it's going to take a while to cool down the surfaces. flakes staying for 30 seconds or so now before melting instead of melting on contact, shouldn't be too much longer until it starts to accumulate.

welcome to March and with a bandy/showery system to boot. We have a long way to go with this bit hopefully what happens with this does so overnight.

I'm not sure this is classic Mohawk-Hudson convergence enhancement (Andy would be a good one to chime in here) which affects areas around the Capital District, but its been snowing better than expected here about 20-25 miles N of Albany for much of the afternoon and evening.

Another odd thing is that heavy band over the Hudson Valley. I'm guessing due to the famous Hudson Valley Convergence Zone. The snow must be halfway up Zuckers tube socks

I'm not worried, It's sticking to everything in westchester per multiple reports from the NYC forum and temps are slowly dropping, down .4 degrees in 10 minutes. I would say in the next hour or so we start to pile it up, still confident with 4-6" here.

How does Will jackpot from everything or did he just decide to live in the snowiest place in SNE?  Snow magnet.  That's a sick band.

If the NAM/Euro idea is right what a t-time in the early morning for a lot of you guys.

Yeah the 18z GFS actually handles it well at 700 if you look at the vvs.

At least here, it's going to really have to pick up for us to make the low end of ranges...just not cold enough-if it were 5 degrees colder we'd have 1-2 inches, instead I have a little slush on the grass...

I think north winds are causing some convergence...we saw this in Boxing Day as well when we didn't have to deal with as much subsidence from the NJ megaband due to localized convergence...

Ripping here, approaching 2".

I think that band is a result of midlevel deformation and frontogenesis and is not related to topographical features. Deformation and frontogenesis occur where the wind field is converging, bringing isotherms closer together. Frontogenesis then induces a mesoscale circulation in the atmosphere with rising motion on the warm side of the frontogenesis zone and subsidence on the cold side of it.

There's definitely a moderate to occasionally very heavy lull from the E. tip of LI,  through RI and S. ORH county,  through Wilmington MA into coastal NH.   This lull is nearly stationary with minimal wind and precipitation.
