March 6th-8th Ocean Storm Obs

A nice middle finger of 25dbz magically appeared and launched itself from West Hartford right over Mt. Tolland, and up into central Mass.

I have S- right now and I'm on the eastern edge of that "finger".  The western edge of the stuff over in RI seems to be backing in though, if ever so slowly.

Yeah I was worried about surface temps during the day.  I know you were as well.  It's not just the wind off the ocean that warms the surface... it's also low elevation and a little bit of solar heating.  I've actually lived in Dorchester, Ma as well as NYC, and right on the water in Albany, NY.  So poorly accumulating slop events are painful memories in my mind.  At some point tonight it will seem like someone flipped a switch and in minutes everything will be covered.  6"+ is possible everywhere tonight.

I'm happy with the way it looks so no complaints here at all. I enjoyed this morning.

I am right around the corner from you on School Street...actually only a couple blocks from Will (if he is at Downtown Crossing...)

All these weather weenies so close to one another lol...

I'm right at Washington and Summer St. I really wanted to stay in ORH today...but couldn't. Should be a fun ride back home though watching the snow gradient.

It was always about the amount of precip which is what I wrestled with. Thank God I didn't have to put my cajones on the line for this. I thought 3-6 here last night when models began to show better potential for tonight's stuff. It may be too low if models are right..but I know how this area behaves this time of year..especially during the day. Winds were progged to be NNE and temps aloft were cold..so marine taint at least BOS and N isn't and won't be the issue IMHO.

But look what happens when you have the heavy precip. 4-5" in the lower spots of SE MA. That's the 495 TAN to ORH hotspot setting up. ORH will do well later on for sure.

Yeah those areas look to be in a very nice spot. The fact that we haven't had any rain yet and are getting even slow accumulation makes me very optimistic for when sundown comes, especially if we get some heavy banding in here.

I won't mind being in Brookline tonight.

Once daylight is out of the equation things should go nicely I think. Euro temps might have been pretty reasonable.

Radar returns seem to be hitting a wall here in Southborough... whenever a semi-impressive band penetrates far enough inland, it just seems to break apart. Is there drier air somewhere up in the atmosphere that's causing this? If so, will it moisten up as time wears on?

As brian alluded to in the other thread, radar is setting up the edge of precip west of NYC, looks nothing like the 12z RGEM. Good sign for down here? Glad that upton did not cut totals here, they cut basically the entire map except for CT and westchester/rockland/orange down another 20% or so just nw

Well... that latest push of precip tried its hardest to make it to the CT border but it just couldn't do it...

I manage a few flurries and sprinkles and a 2 degree temp drop from 40 to 38... but back to just overcast and the edge of the precip back to the east side of the bay.

The wind is still howling and frequently gusting in the mid to high 40's.

Been an interesting setup that's for sure...
