Stormlover74
Thanks. So no additional snow after 11:15am. Seems that way, it says valid 4pm but its preliminary so I guess it could be updated EWRs total was 6.6" with a snow depth of 1 inch

uncle W
Thanks. So no additional snow after 11:15am. that can't be right...We all know it snowed past that time and accumulating...it's becoming a joke...
ag3
that can't be right...We all know it snowed past that time and accumulating...it's becoming a joke... The PNS released at 4:25 lists NYC at 4.0" as of 11:15am. Daily report as of 4:00pm says 4.0" as well. Definitely weird. LGA is obviously erroneous also, but that's a normal thing and expected. NorthShoreWx
It was there for one instant, but we don't need to get into the physics of it now Disregarding that then, Max depth was 9", plus .3" from earlier yesterday(it is the same storm, it never stopped snowing), and compaction+settling from overnight, I think 10" is sitll reasonable and I sent it to NWS, it corrobrates well with other reports from the immediate area. -skisheep I hope you mentioned in your NWS report that this was an estimate. Unless you are measuring per standards, it is just an estimate. Was your max depth on lawn, a deck or table, or a snow board?
Brian5671
nice event for most of us--6 inches here give or take-didn't really add up to much after 9am despite continued snowfall. compacted down to 3 or 4 inches with a temp of 37 doing the dirty work. NorthShoreWx
A storm like this is why you really should be doing the snow board method. Measure after 6 hours, clear the board, measure after the next 6 hours, etc. Oddly, I cleared one one board and didn't clear another. The max depth on the board that I did not clear was greater than the total of the two measurements from the board that I did clear. I think the solar gain on the cleared board messed it up. My total is going to be the max depth on the board, 5.9" Counting Thursday mornings snow, my total is 6.9"
jm1220
yeah, im gonna go ahead and call bullsh-t on the woodmere total..by about 4 or so inches I was just going to ask you about that. But we must have had at least 4 or 5" given what JFK had and what Doug measured in RVC.

nzucker
I'm going to go with 9" in Dobbs Ferry...the town measured a bit over 7" at 855am and probably picked up about 2" more. Being at 350' means I probably received a bit more than some of the measurements from neighboring downtown Ardsley, which reported 7.5". There was about 5-6" total when I left for work at 6:30am, so this is the best estimate I can make. Beautiful scene in town right now with a wet March snow plastering everything. This storm brings me to 46.25" on the year. That's very similar to 08-09 when the town received 45". Getting a decent event in March raises the grade for Winter 12-13 to a B, as we've now had a 17" storm, a 9" storm, and an 8" storm. The cold season has been VERY long this year, starting on November 7th with the 8" that fell that afternoon. November was a very cold month, and March looks to finish well below average with much above normal snow (expecting another event), so I have to give extra points for longevity. The grade could improve to a B+/A- if we see a MECS/HECS in March, which is entirely possible the way things are looking.
bluewave
Central Park is likely a little low... what's new about that? It was nice when the NWS was still at 30 rock and I think that they sent mets or techs over to the park to measure.
jm1220
It was nice when the NWS was still at 30 rock and I think that they sent mets or techs over to the park to measure. Just given how intensely the snow was coming down in Midtown, I'm quite surprised they didn't hit 5" and I thought they had a shot at 6". They were snow/heavy snow for 4 straight hours. 11:15 was about when it shut off so I guess that's when the zookeeper measured.

Was your max depth on lawn, a deck or table, or a snow board? I did mention that it was an estimate, and on a lawn(deck/table probably 1” less or so), mentioned it all in the report, I’m actually kind of surprised that they included it and took my weird estimated compaction stuff that everyone here tossed(and rightfully so, I’m honestly shocked that they took the 10”, unless they got another report from somewhere(north stamford?)) -skisheep

SR Airglow
This storm raised the grade for the winter from C+ to A-, having something unexpected is really awesome, it’s so much more fun to have a 4-6” storm become 10” than a storm that was always supposed to be 10” all along, it really made my winter. I don’t think we are done yet, EURO and GGEM today liked the end of next week for some potential, Upton was yakking about it also in their long range. -skisheep
NorthShoreWx
Had 10.3" @ 10:45am. Snow pack now measures 10.6". However the tire tracks that I left at 10:45am have a fresh 1" accumulation. Final tally 11.3" Are you near Stillwell? I am debating if its worth getting up early for a ski before we get too many barespots. I'm near Caleb Smith which is good for skiing, except most of this snow is probably dripping out ot the evergreens at Caleb Smith instead of covering the ground. The trip my college class took to 30 Rock back in the 80's was one of my favorites. It was really cool to put faces on the NOAA weather radio voices that I had been listening to for years. That was also the first time that I met Al Roker when he was giving a talk there as part of a presentation.

Usually run on the Stillwell trails. Use the soccer field entrance. Have you been there since the hurricane. Lots of trees destoyed.
