People in immediate DC metro should really post their viz....Having big flakes or steady snow or coming down good, doesnt tell us anything

anyway..the reason midlo is getting raked, is the 850 low is in a perfect spot for him....once it moves more northeast we might fare a little better here

Probably less than .25 mi visibility. But that's an educated guess, as I'm in my house, looking out the window and can only see trees less than that distance from this angle.

I'm far from an expert but I'd say visibility is close to, or a hair over, 1/4 mile. Don't know if that helps...

Clearly the notion that we'd be getting raked with mega-bands all day is busted. The radar picture is pretty sad.

globals were right, the WAA died fast as the low went through a redevelopment phase, and the precip became very hit or miss and showery.  Thats not gonna work in March.  We probably get the deform band for a few hours as this thing gets reorganized and fires up again, but we wasted a lot of potential.

I'll just note that I sit up enough to see pretty far, and haven't noticed visibility drop below a mile all morning, even with "big flakes."

It's mostly rain here right now with a vis about 3+ miles, give or take.

3/4 to 1 mile right now.  Has spent most of the last half-hour between 1/4 and 1/2.

LWX from the 9:42 update

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

STACKED LOW PRESSURE OVER THE HAMPTONS WILL SLOWLY PUSH

OFFSHORE THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. WINDS HAVE SHIFTED TO THE NNE

OVER THE I95 CORRIDOR...AND PRECIPITATION HAS CHANGED OVER TO

HEAVY SNOW. AREAS TO THE SOUTHEAST OF BALTIMORE/DC SHOULD CHANGE

OVER TO SNOW AS WELL OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS. GIVEN THE

DURATION OF RAINFALL OVER THE REGION SO FAR THIS MORNING...HAVE

LOWERED SNOW TOTALS ALONG AND EAST OF I-95...BUT MAINTAINING

WINTER STORM WARNING FOR THE ENTIRE AREA.

ALSO ADDED ISOLATED THUNDER TO AREAS S OF THE DC METRO. CONVECTION

CURRENTLY OCCURRING OVER SE VA MAY ROTATE NWD INTO THE PIEDMONT AND

SRN MD. ONE STRIKE WAS NOTED EARLIER OVER CULPEPER COUNTY...AND

FORECAST SOUNDINGS INDICATE ELEVATED INSTABILITY.

PRECIP IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. BANDS OF

HEAVIER PRECIP EXPECTED TO ROTATE AROUND THE NORTH AND WEST SIDE

OF THE LOW...AS LIFT CONTINUES TO BE STRONG. HRRR ADVERTISES ONE

SUCH BAND ROTATING AROUND THE DC METRO AREA THROUGH LATE

AFTERNOON...AND OTHER BANDING ACTIVITY ALONG AND WEST OF THE BLUE

RIDGE WHERE SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL HAS ALREADY FALLEN.

A RAPID DECREASE IN SNOW INTENSITIES WILL OCCUR TOWARD THE

MIDDLE/LATE EVE HRS FROM WEST-TO-EAST AS THE LOW ACCELERATES OFF THE

COAST AND DISSIPATES THE LARGER SNOW BAND OVER THE REGION. ONLY

FLURRIES AND RESIDUAL LIGHT POCKETS OF SNOW CONTINUE LATE THIS EVE

BUT ALSO DISSIPATE INTO THE OVERNIGHT HRS. AS CONDITIONS DRY

OUT...WINDS WILL REMAIN. TEMPS WON`T DROP TOO MUCH FURTHER BELOW

FREEZING BUT WILL CHILLS WILL...AS A DRIER BITING NW WIND TAKES OVER

INTO THE EARLY MRNG HRS THU.

Ok despite radar anomalies etc., I've resigned to accepting 'something pretty to look at.' Congrats to those getting what they deserved. Now I feel grateful for growing up in Ellicott City. DC climo is a b****.
