Jebman
tons of wet snow falling off of the tree in the front yard splunch! splunch! splunch! making millions of holes in the snowpack in the front yard. MidlothianWX
I have heard thunder at least 4-5 times in the past hour. Heavy heavy snow with a pivoting death band over me. 2-3" on the ground.
BrendaM
I was just about to type, "Cold drizzle here in Southeast York County," and when I took another glance out the window, I now see snow. So I believe a changeover is currently taking place.
MDScot
Downtown DC (SW) Medium snow and winds picking up. Starting to stick on grass and cars. Roads just wet however - lot of brave snowflakes melting for nothing.
jacindc
Heavy monster snow started on the south side of Capitol Hill about 15 minutes ago, just as I was waking up. Not sticking on street or sidewalk yet, though. But I think I made the right call to just skip to the end of these threads rather than trying to catch up through the overnight stuff! PhineasC
The issue up here is rates. It is just very spotty at best. I think the models that had NE MD fringed a bit may have been on to something.
clskinsfan
Check out the NE radar. The storm is really just starting to produce heavy bands. We are just getting started guys. http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/northeast_loop.php

W4CGT
Couple inches on the ground in Leesburg. A few flurries right now, not much falling. Pavement is coated but it is melting almost as fast as it is falling.
mattie g
Those heavy returns PG and Charles just don't want to cross over 95. Waiting...impatiently.
SomeguyfromTakomaPark
Can't believe how fast everything went from damp to totally snow covered. Some of the heaviest rates I've ever seen.
mascho
Snow ripping here in Silver Spring and finally sticking to pavement.
TalcottWx
Literally hasnt finished off stacking at either 700mb nor even 850 completely yet. Will be within an hour. Dry air aloft is often cause for trouble aloft. Boxing day had it in Boston and I only cashed in because of a coastal front that demolished Boston. Upslope saves foothill and mountains. But when this stacks and gets going everything improves. No it won't be of level forecasted but still a significant storm outside of marine influence. Check out this wall of snow se of baltimore on dover radar. And see snow intensifying at DC.
lsukev
My concern isnt the radar, its the BL...by the Bay, its just not cold enough and even with heavy precip, I dont think I see much accumulation...Im not ruling out snow, but warning criteria? No Yeah, you're winds are coming from the northeast. Might have to wait until your winds shift to due north or beyond...

TalcottWx
The dry air is what caused the bursty garbage. Hartford in Boxing Day only managed accumulation during this bursts because of the better bl in that situation. When your going back and forth between rasn and its 34 you won't see much. WinterWxLuvr
Not sure what NWS is waiting for, If I were them I would of already downgraded to advisories at least S and E of I95.. I think it will still happen.

Ger
SN occasionally +SN in Capitol Hill. Hoping the past few hours was just lull while the system redeveloped. It seems unlikely that ALL models prove to be wrong (in that all of them showed precip into tonight), no?

lsukev
If you want to see which way we're headed as far as precip, take a look at this radar loop; especially the end. Tons of moisture are starting to be pulled into this storm. Kudos to whomever above posted the link to this radar site.
