Just drove to work in Sterling, all roads slushy and snow coming down moderately. Car thermometer says 31 degrees.

There are a lot of pictures from places in Loudoun showing snow covered roads. If only we could send it east a bit. The "dryslot" has filled in very nicely.

Three inches of very wet snow on several surfaces. Plowed roadway covered with more snow.

Yeah I should have driven home to Dale City instead of  staying in Columbia. Hoping it picks up later. Rain and snow now. Not even a half inch.

Slightly over 7 inches.  Heavy snow and wind currently.

Snow picking up to moderate, larger flakes. It is light enough out now that I can see the falling snow, driven by a 15 mph north breeze. It is gusting a few mph higher than that.

I know lots of people are in negative mode, but look at the radar.  You can just see the banding starting to take shape.  I'll bet good money that by 9AM there is going to be one solid a$$ band parked right where it is modeled to be, and that band will contain the "megabands" as we call them. 

 

The SLP to the SE is just getting cranking.

Rain and snow, mostly rain at the moment, in North Bethesda. Barely half an inch on the grass.

Liquid equivalent of my 3" was 0.48"

 

So, a 6.25:1 ratio.  Ugly.

 

Given some of the initial and ongoing melting, we are probably 0.5"-0.6" on the event.  Not that far off from the models IMBY.

I am beside myself with joy!!!!!!!! WOW I can see the snow real good now!! It is daytime! I dont need streetlights now to see the snow driven by that relentless north wind!!!

Winds are picking up considerably here and maybe I am misreading the radar, but it looks to me like this is going to play out like the LWX discussion reads.  We've got a lot to overcome, but we all knew marginal temps and March sun angle were going to be a problem, but in the heavier bands, most of us should be snow. 

 

And not to rush things, but I still think this evening holds promise once the temps crash and the sun sets.  I'm feeling pretty good about things.

Snowing nicely now with a wonderful scene outside. Not sure about exact amounts yet but everything is snow covered and looks like an inch and a half at minimum.

Nearly 2 inches in Clifton, VA (in a low elevation area). Though it is already melting with the slow down in rates.

2-3 wet inches on my car at 5am in Reston, moderate snow, roads covered.  Drove in to College Park for work and it's less than an inch on grass here, roads wet, rain/snow mix.

The sun is up enough now to see what's going on and although the snow on the ground is sloppy and wet, the stuff falling looks drier and is coming down in gusty waves.  Should be awesome once the bands to the southeast that are developing rotate in.

I will not litter the board with panic, but there is always a part of me that does in situations like this. Its hard to trust the modeling on something like this until the energy actually transfers and we see the bands set up.  Until that point, bust is always in the front of my mind. It doesn't help my state of mind that my part of Balt City was always on the edge of rain and we have been fighting that on and off for hours.

This is essentially a rainstorm along I-95 from the Mason Dixon Line down to Aberdeen Maryland (30 miles north of Baltimore). Can't say I am surprised. Hopefully it will turn to snow later.
