Precip increasing again in intensity...but it's wet and not white.

for as bad of luck as we have had this winter with snow... it could be worse... we could be places in colorado who has seen about 2" of precip in the last 6 months... so yay no rain droughts here :-)

Yup. My parents in Texas lost 14 giant oak trees two years ago because of drought. I'm pissed about no snow but I'll take the moisture.

Yeah, no doubt. It's easy to call bust but really it's virtually impossible to nail down this storm. No model did very good with it, I guess once again the Euro came closest to all.

it is a good example of why not to model hug... as soon as the new RPM came out last night and showed the rain/snow line further east (well east of DC) NWS/TWC/etc all jumped on board the wetter model runs and bumped up the snow totals... I even thought temperature profiles looked great... boy was I wrong there lol... NAM was def the coldest of the models with GFS closer to being actually right temperature wise at the surface for the locations I remember taking a look at... will be interesting to see the case study to deterimine what the models did actually handle well and what they missed on...

I can't recall a more complex setup with so many variables, so many ways this thing could have gone. Family asked me last night what was going to happen...I just sat there and stared at all of them. Finally I managed a "I really don't know", which didn't go over so well. Later I explained to my wife that I could see us getting nothing to a foot to anywhere in between.

I feel bad for the mets today...how do you predict that it will be ripping snow in Richmond while it's raining here at the same time?

Fascinating to watch play out, despite the disappointment.

Thanks Jamie. I need to go back and look at some of the stats. I don't recall it ever being this bad but good stuff.

What rubbed salt in the wounds was we had a ton of lake cutters in the late 70s, too, although there was the 78/79 storms.

man, the 70s? You must be old.. .

Its tough, it really is, when you have a banner snow year, then zip, not even making yearly average. i too remember the snowless years in the 70,80 and 90s.. sucks!

I have this memory when I was 6, the 72-73 winter, of finally seeing it snow and stick in like late Feb or something.

i think it was more brutal on us, then it is for kids now. you know how when it snowed, you were out and about. I live in a town with a bunch of kids and i hardly if ever see them sleding.

Just over 6 inches here in Waynesboro, but nearly all of it arrived before 8am this morning. Obviously not the bust that it was in other areas, but to have 0 accumulating snow during the period when most models showed the heaviest banding is pretty depressing.

Same here. I had 5.0" at 7am and only managed another 1.0" for the day.

Salisbury Maryland area is getting rocked right now with heavy rains and high winds... officially Salisbury is only reporting 1.83" so far but radar estimates are a lot lot higher... wind gusts have been as high as 50-55 mph there so I can only imagine what they are closer to the ocean with less friction
