Gilbertfly
NAM looks too warm for the southern fringes of the snow band to me (parts of N IL and N IN). All things considered. But yeah, verbatim, the rain got a slight bit colder for us. Yeah....GFS hasn't been as sharp with the cutoff's on the southern portions
mimillman
I've been noticing that too, has had it the last two runs. I believe you were one of those questioning why I was saying less for ORD. There is one of your reasons.
Gilbertfly
Any surviving snowpack previous to snowfall should have that nice crusted top due to sun melting today and cold temps tonight....fluffier snowfall will whip around pretty good with any winds as it will be skating on top of the ice crust layer....FWIW
Hoosier
NAM soundings are actually warmer for LAF. Rain and mid 30's now. Things are looking up. Notice the stuff to our east. That wasn't there to that extent on previous NAM runs.
Geos
Another 10"+ storm coming up for you, this is starting to look like Milwaukee's February 1994 stretch for you. That month they had 4 storms in the region in a three week stretch dumping between 6 and 15" of snow each. Yeah I'm liking my chances of at least 8". Going to break the 50" mark with no problem. Don't really remember that stretch of time though. That was a year or two before I really started following the wx.

mimillman
The warmest of all the models has 8-10" for ORD. Did you check the NAM soundings? The 900mb layer is above freezing for the first time at the onset of precipitation. That wasn't there before.
