February 25-27 Winter Storm Part 4

Yup. That's what it looked like here this morning. I took a quick shot that I'll upload when I get home.

We saw more snow this month alone than all of last winter combined and 2009-10 too, haha.

YYZ recorded an astounding 61.7cm, not including today, this month. I think that would make it in the top 5 for the snowiest Feb? 2008 is first i believe.

Not bad. With the way this winter started, would've never expected this.

Beautiful photos Harrisale. It would have looked like that here if it wasn't for the wind.

Accumulating snow stopped around 2am last night. 2-day total: 16.4". Probably the snowiest last week of February I've experienced. Snow depth is between 15-19". (Still had up to 4" of old snow on the ground)

Wow. Mt Geos to Chicago sounds even much more extreme than the elevation NW burbs to Detroit here. Whats the peak depth IYBY since youve kept track?

You know how fun it is to tromp through powder and drifts? Today I am avoiding walking in snow at all costs. Its simply mashed potatoes. We have YET to see a temp colder than 33F since all of this precipitation fun began.

A Feb 26-28 storm recap:

Round 1 (Feb 26/27): MBY--- Precip: 1.19", Snow: 2.2"......DTW--- Precip 1.40", Snow 3.0"

Round 2 (Feb 27 eve): MBY---Precip: 0.23", Snow: 2.3".....DTW--- Precip 0.17", Snow 3.5" (bigger dendrites at DTW)

Round 3 (Feb 28 am): MBY---Precip: 0.06", Snow: 0.6"......DTW----Precip 0.06", Snow 0.6"

Feb 26-28 TOTAL.......MBY---Precip: 1.48", Snow: 5.1"......DTW----Precip: 1.63", Snow: 7.1"

Peak depth this entire event: MBY- 3" slush...DTW- 5" slush

Current 1pm depth: MBY- 1-2" slush...DTW- 3" slush

Trees have sucked up the snow like crazy, as has parts of the grass (that had no old snow). Will be interesting to see how long the piles stick around for sure. But it sure is a shame that at least 0.75" of liquid has fallen AS SNOW the last 48 hours (not counting any of the rain/sleet) and 1-2" slush depth is what we have to show (along with some interesting ice burg snowbanks).

Never thought I'd live to see the day josh is complaining about snow :P

Its just frustrating lol. I love a nice plaster snow but thats not what we got. We got slush. Briefly stuck to some trees but the dripping always overwhelmed everything else. Ill tell you one thing, if I DARE hear how all those fluffy snows early in Feb "stat-padded" our season total up after we just endured 10-1 ratio snow Feb 22nd, 4-1 ratio snow Feb 26/27, and 10-1 ratio snow Feb 27/28.... :axe::lmao:

Peak depth ever? That would be about 36" back in January of 1999. It broke 30" in Dec of 2000 and February of 2011

Backyard is pretty much just a 4" slab of ice now every night when it freezes up.

gorgeous. Fabulous month for snow indeed, but not finishing it scenically here.

Shoulda driven to AA's 7"....it was gorgeous here  :devilsmiley:

Geos, you need to buy some snow shoes! :lmao:

Yeah, I could have used those this week!

I just noticed today this storm broke about 6 good sized white pine branches off up to 3" in diameter. Haven't seen a crushing snow like that since the surprise heavy snow in the middle of the otherwise awful January 2006.

Wow, looks nothing like downtown.

Yes, this is was one of those storms that makes me glad I live in the suburbs, at least in terms of winter weather. Toronto is so different from Ottawa in that, likely due to the lake, there's often a huge difference between what is experienced downtown and what is experienced in the suburbs. I wonder if cities like Chicago, Detroit and NYC are similar in that regard?

Replace the word often with occasionally and I agree. And sometimes it pays to live further south/near the Lake, although I'll concede that the distribution of winter wx benefits disproportionately favour the northern suburbs.

For a while this season, downtown Toronto had a big lead in terms on snowfall. However, that has vanished. The East York station now has a 4" lead while Pearson Airport is only 4-5" behind. I guess Mother Nature likes to balance things out in the end.

12z NAM has gone south... not as far as the GFS, but nails northeast 1/3 of Iowa through northern Illinois while drying out most of Wisconsin.

12z GFS crushes Iowa with widespread 1.00+ qpf.  With the latest NAM shifting south and the GFS a bit north, the models seem to be converging on eastern Iowa with the best snow.  The Euro is weaker and less organized than the others, but it's the outlier.  The nws must be thinking about issuing watches for this area.

Wrong thread. See below. :)

The erroneous 0.0" entered in for downtown Toronto on the 26th has been changed to 3.9". That brings their storm total for this storm up to 5.5".

The revised numbers make much more sense. I'm glad Environment Canada adjusted the numbers for the 26th and 27th.  The snow depth at the Toronto City automated station (same location as the downtown station) increased from 7 cm on Feb. 26th (7 am) to 12 cm on Feb 28th (7 am). Plus account for some melting that took place during the day on the 26th before the rain/snow came and some more melting on the 27th and you get a gain of 5 cm (2") of unmelted snow during the storm.
