You have 22 posts in over 2 years and this is what brought you out of lurker land?

I post only when I have something of quality to contribute, which more people here should do especially during storm mode. I also use the report feature in the discussion threads (I rarely report anything in the banter thread unless it is a personal attack) when something violates rules. As a refresher, the Forum Rules are pasted below. Most posts that I report deal with the issues in red.

American Weather Rules & Restrictions Boardwide Rules

  • No porn or links to porn
  • No threats of physical violence through postings or PMs
  • No racist/sexist/ethnic/homophobic slurs
  • No using PM system for personal gain/spam
  • No advertising without prior admin approval
  • Multiple accounts will get you banned
  • Do not post threads asking why another member was warned/banned
  • No political sigs, avatars or member titles
  • No excessive trolling of other members

You may not post private messages publicly or any part thereof unless you have approval from the originator.

Weather Forum Rules

  • No politics/religious discussion  (sports could arguably be considered political/religious in some areas of the South :lmao: )
  • No foul language
  • No personal attacks/OT arguing
  • Try to stay on topic
  • Attack the idea, not the poster
  • Spell out your forecast/thinking/opposing viewpoint clearly
  • If you post a map, explain it
  • Keep banter to a minimum during Storm Mode* (see below)

...

HOW YOU CAN HELP: REPORTING POSTS

The Americanwx.com staff is consistently on the lookout for posts which violate the board rules, but we only have so many eyes. At the bottom left portion of each post there is a button titled "Report". Please feel free to report objectionable posts as often as necessary. The staff members will be notified of problems, and the issue will be resolved. In some cases a reported post may remain because a staff member does not deem it to be inappropriate.

I like arguing.

Talking about Sports in another regional forum when there is already a sports subforum is like going to the grocery store to buy some milk when you already have a full gallon in the refrigerator.

But what if you're in the store and you want milk right then, even if you already have milk at home?

Hey, Larry started a thread about the weekend possibilities we should all keep an eye on.

All of the banter about banter is making me thirsty for a highball. Whomever is the whiney butt running to tell Mom that they don't want to read about basketball stuff needs to take a chill pill. "March Banter Thread" that is the title, we have great chats about silly stuff in here all the time and if I'm not mistaken Basketball is almost over for the year and I have certainly learned to use my scroll feature to get through posts about it.

I'm here for the entertainment and even the LOL's and Sketti-o's make me chuckle.

So, group hug and I want to be in the middle and let's put an end to this and agree to irritate each other from time to time posting stupid sh**.

Agreed.  I like your level-headed thinking.  Why can't we all just irritate each other together?

The bolded is what happened when I signed on this morning....ugh....again....I'm not saying it won't be allowed, but when it becomes an issue it's time to move the discussion in a different direction. It's not about all or nothing, it's about keeping the peace and courtesy

Fair enough.  I'll replace my pitchfork in its rightful place and extinguish the torch now.  As long as I can occasionally make a snide comment about the Tarheels and extol the virtues of Duke basketball, I'm good.

We are rapidly approaching the point where the posts about posting about sports outnumber the posts about sports. On the plus side, we now have people getting pissed off at each other which usually makes for interesting reading.

Very true, jburns.  In fact, I've thought you've made quite a few good points in the past couple of pages.  Thanks for your defense on principle, even if you couldn't care less about the subject matter.  (I don't really know if you like sports or not.)

Banter threads get out of hand when I don't create them. Leave it to the pros folks.

And there's one of those occasional witty posts to which I was referring earlier!  Well done, Wilkes, you brought a chuckle out of me.

Lastly, I'll also offer a general thanks to those of you rising to the defense of freedom of speech in the March Banter Thread!  I know who you are, and I think we share many commonalities in thought.  FREEDOM!!!!!

I was grumbling to myself about the stern new dictum's for the Perciflage thread, when I came in out of the rain, and I had a wax floor harsh my mellow because I wasn't paying attention.  Wet feet, waxed floor ....equal to, but not the same as  hanging on the hoop during outside basketball ....  and lightening.

I am now formally asking for a return of the Super Thread, and an end to all these threads to perdition!  Let us mix weather with tomatoes and sports, while putting each other down in that age old traditional means of forging simpatico.   T

A cold front moved in and put a damper on all the hot fun we've been having ALL WINTER!!!!

This foul front has a the technical name of CAD.  Some cold dribbles and a steal of our warm temps pressed right down the lane for a slam dunk shot of cold air.  A three point low could develop beyond the 850 line and it would be a game changer. Net result would be classic.

Oh my goodness I love these kind of posts. :lmao: :lmao:

Reminds me of the time someone (Coldrain I think) said dog**** had a negative tilt to it and a 1959 triple phaser which a picture of a mountain of **** posted. :lmao:

Or, follow the rules and do what the mods kindly ask, and you have nothing to worry about. To me, sports conversations are only an issue when it turns the thread into 1+ full pages of nothing but sports. This is a weather forum on a weather website. If you want to talk sports that bad, there are several sports forums out there to use. Heck, there's a garden thread on here, but I'm still a member of 2 other garden and tomato forums because that's what their focus is. Here, it's weather.

Hmmm - I'm struggling to know where to begin.  Firstly, let me re-introduce you to the SE sub-forum and it's skittled variety of actual "weather threads".  Take a look at the index page and joyously stroll the different topics of weather wonderment.  One thing you'll likely notice is a "Banter" thread - a local hang out that stays full, regardless of whatever weather may be going on.  The fact is, there is no way to fill 365 days with weather discussion - unless of course you enjoy reading the same thoughts, opinions, analysis - or in certain poster's cases - the same canned line repeated over and over until the next season rolls in.

Secondly - the word "banter" was not trademarked and/or copyrighted by AmWx.  It means the same thing in any and every other internet forum you may happen to stumble upon.  "Banter" threads have many purposes, but one of it's primary reasons for existence is to regulate the forum as a whole.  It is placed within the community to satisfy the human need to converse about life, the universe and everything.

This presents a dilemma to those who wish to self impose their interpretation of forum rules (which I did not feel the need to re-post, as even the red ones you pointed out earlier are subject to debate where "banter" is involved and frankly have not been violated with the possible exception of foul language).  We are not in storm mode.  But if we were, I would wager that having an actual "banter" thread would be a first line of defense in keeping the weather discussion threads clear (which should have been the reason it was "invented" in the first place).

There is no such thing as "weather banter".  You cannot go "off topic" in banter - "banter" IS the topic.

If you or anyone else is here for the sparkling weather discussion and nothing more, simply stay out of banter in the first place.

The blatant reality is that you need banter to work the way it does.  Try enjoying those discussion pages without this.  I'm sure the Mods would just find it swell to have a much higher report ratio to deal with, as the discussions would be undoubtedly riddled with banter without an isolated thread to capture most of it.

However, if you feel so inclined to go through the rules - line by line with us here in banter, I would be more than happy to consider just how this banter thread has been violating them.  I've already conceded one, so we'll call it a head start...

It seems there are now more posts about how banter should not include sports than there were actual posts about sports. Although, I think it is absurd somebody reports the sports banter and can't simply scroll past it, in effort to move the banter thread forward...

The ACC Basketball season thread covers the teams we are conversing about here and is usually made of people from the Southeast subforum, thus you can still talk (and argue, which is mainly between the Tar Heels and dookies although a stray wuffie may make its way into the feuding) with people you are familiar with. The occasional yankee does make his or her way in sometimes, though. ;)

The dude had 22 posts in 2 years + and listed the numerous types of posts and he has reported.  Based on my experience I would venture his number of reports are greater than his number of posts by at least a factor of three. A perfect example of the type of non-contributing member whose reports should be ignored by moderators.
