WeatherNC
We hav e tons of picts. We will be able to post from the road better We're about to attempt the short drive to Front Royal, give the electronic devices a chance to charge. Straight up ripping outside, vis 1/8, here's a shot, hot of the press, we were at that barn around 830 with about a foot in the field, probably 16-18 at this point with the hammer down. Will update once we get on the road lol.

Cold Rain
Wilkes, there were literally at least 500 blackbirds in the trees and on the ground in my two neighbors' yard this morning. Thought you'd like to know. Maybe they think it's going to snow soon or something.

Powerstroke is much more knowledgeable on landscaping than am I, but that might actually mean you have lots of grubs in your soil. I think they don't mature until later in the year, though, so maybe not.
kvegas-wx
Power just went out. Localized I'm sure but the wind is really stout today! I was driving back from PTI this morning on I-40 west and damn near blew off the road.

ILMRoss
Reading the MA forum, sounds like the storm is a pretty big bust for DC, Baltimore, and other places. I think a northward shift in the models 3-4 days out like we had is better than a bust like they're having right now.
NGaWxNerd
A cup of gin (cheap stuff) with 1/2 cup of baby shampoo in hose end sprayer helps with grubs.

There is nothing worse (winter weather wise) than having a WSW for upwards of a foot only to watch it rain and mix. I would much rather the models abandon me completely a couple days out. jburns
I hope you brought Jburns' walker. I did bring my walker. And right now the snow is up to the 20" mark on the leg. How deep is the snow where you are?
Jet Stream Rider
I know a lot of places are getting accumulating snow at 33 or 34 degrees, but this storm is busting for a lot of folks as well because of lack of enough cold. Look at the near freezing surface temp analysis;
POWERSTROKE
You may be right. There are a lot of moles too. They like grubs. Bingo guys. Moles are eating grubs. I have not seen grubs this early like i have this year. Warm ground temps kept them from going deep. Ive never treated before may

I think a northward shift in the models 3-4 days out like we had is better than a bust like they're having right now. Strongly agree. I'd be in full meltdown mode if I expected a good snow and ended up with a slushy mix. Thankfully, I gave up on this one a few days ago, so it doesn't hurt to miss out. We always knew the cold was going to be a problem, but the models had trended towards colder surface temperatures near DCA in the last few runs of the models, yet here we are. On a side note, it's kind of bizarre how Richmond is now seeing heavy snow while it is raining in DCA. Of course, Dulles to the west of a city is a different story where it has been snowing at 33 degrees all day. A few miles can make all the difference in these marginal events. EDIT: Good to hear Frosty is okay!

From the sound of it, the snow is in full meltdown mode too.If BL is a problem up there, I can't imagine what kind of issues we'd have further south.
