Woke up this morning to a surprise ~2cm of snow on the ground. It's melted in some spots but in shaded areas the grass is more or less covered well. Per radar we might be dealing with some more heavy bursts of snow in not too long. This winter is trying to compensate for not starting until December 20.

Wow. Pouring with snowflakes out there right now. Flake size must be in the 1-2cm range with some of them. Probably the heaviest snow we've had since the Feb. 8 storm though this snow is having a hard time accumulating due to ground temps.

Edit: One of the most intense squalls of the winter just blew through. Only lasted a few minutes but rates were incredible while it was over us. Ground and most roads now have a nice coating. Some pics:

A couple official reports from my immediate area.  I received 4.5" and have a depth of 16"

Still amazed at the depth for this time of year and considering we had an inch of rain the other day and temps near 50.  While not the 4 ft in the UP, still impressive by my standards. With the potential snow  this Friday, could def go over the 2 ft mark again at my house againbefore the inevitable thaw.

12z GFS will make Saukville cry...  spring=fail!

I'm seeing subzero readings next week here...  Probably not record breaking, but it will be close.

Geos-

Rapid City?

My brothers go out there hunting (Phillip area)..i've only been through the Black Hills once about 10 years ago.  Can get crazy warm and very cold...all in a short amt of time in that area.  I'd like to go back out there during the summer and go hiking.

Love getting into a hot car via the March sun. Makes these chilly early spring days easier to handle. Crocuss have bloomed this past werkend, but this persistant chill has stopped their progression. Robins are beeboping around outside. Many hints of spring minus the chilly air. Wont be long until the tulip pop.

Yes, I will be there. Will be in the middle of the Black Hills more- near Hill City.

Will have to send some pics over.

I've only been there during the summer, but I've been in the region when a cold front come down from the north in the autumn! Went from 72° to 38° on the backside of the Big Horn Mts. that one time I was there!

If it snows that's ok, but hopefully not a lot.

Those lake waters aren't going to warm at all with the forecast in the next week. lol

Winter feel back in the air today. Even under the cloud cover the warmth of the March sun is hidden today for the first time in weeks. I think this colder weather will have a true grip on the region for the next 10-14 days. Snow flakes litter the air but no accumulations today. DAB+ only.
